Cherokee Sport 4.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 119,540 miles

Had a Jeep Cherokee 4.0L with almost 120,000 miles on it when it started giving me engine issues. I always serviced the vehicle and changed the oil myself when necessary. First it started with the check engine light coming on due to apparent misfires (1,3,random,ect.) Had my trusted mechanic look at it and he replaced the spark plugs/coil pack because they were old, engine light was gone but then came back a couple weeks later with similar misfire codes. I would only feel the misfire when I started the Jeep shortly after it was driven and warmed up. I was told this was a "heatsoak" issue common with the older Cherokees.. I soon later had problems with the idling speed, evap system, ect. All that were codes coming up from the dreaded check engine light.. with a so called "bulletproof" 4.0 straight six.

Cherokee Sport 4X4 4.0L

This has happened several times, each time shop looked at various suspected causes. Fuel, ignition etc. Better after the last fix, but not perfect.
