  • 63,252 miles
My vehicle between 50,000 to 62500 miles have been shutting down with no warning while driving. It has stopped entering highway and on city streets. When the vehicle stops and suddenly its steering wheel locks up and I cannot steer vehicle. I have already paid for myself to get alternator replaced, cabin filter, new spark plugs, and several batteries and problem still exists. I have had this vehicle 17 months.

Cherokee

  • 77,800 miles
Intermittent jerky transmission shifting, typically at lower speeds (<20 mph). When this happens, often results in transmission error that states vehicle must be stopped or placed in park. Until stopped and put in park, no acceleration or ability to shift otherwise. Typically happens at intersections or stop/go traffic... very dangerous. We had the V69 recall performed... still happened. We took it back in and dealer replaced the tcm... still happens. Need to resolve before allowing my teenage daughter to continue driving vehicle.

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that the transmission failed. The vehicle was taken to auto plaza Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep Ram (12830 mo 21 highway desoto, mo 63020, 636-337-7777) to be repaired per NHTSA campaign number: 19V447000 (power train) and NHTSA campaign number: 16V529000 (power train). The repairs did not correct the failure. While driving various speeds, the vehicle shifted hard, jerked, and hesitated to shift into gear. When the engine was started, the vehicle entered into limp mode and the service transmission, service parking brake, and check engine warning indicators illumiated. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer numerous times for the failures. The dealer updated the engine and transmission modules and software several times; however, the failure was not corrected. The manufacturer was contacted. The failure mileage was 85,000.

I September I did the safety recall on my Jeep. My car still does not go when I step on the gas (it doesnt do it always) from a stop. I was almost side swiped waiting for the Jeep to decide to go. This is an on going problem and I was hopeful when there was finally a recall. Now that my daughter is about to turn 16 she is petrified to drive this vehicle. And I dont blame her. If I had the money I would buy a new vehicle. I just want to feel safe when I step on the gas to go from a stop. I dont want the vehicle to hesitate in going.

Was driving Jeep and it stopped complete forward movement, wouldn't rev or continue to accelerate at all. Service transmission, ABS, and traction lights came on the dash. Towed into dealership and read codes for a faulty wheel speed sensor as well. Reading tons of posts on here about people getting this recall done. Then a new bug gets updated to your software telling you to service shifter. Very worried this will happen to me after I get V69 recall done Monday. Transmission has been jumpy/rough shifting since I bought it at 69,000. Have come to accept the fact the 9 speed is a defective transmission. Very sad execution on this vehicles power train components.

Service shifter flashes across dash. All of the gear lights remain lit. Car jerks hard into gear. Car will only move in reverse. I have had several transmission related issues repaired by the Jeep dealership since I purchased the vehicle in June 2017. 6 months after purchase I started having transmission related issues. On 10/25/19, car would no longer shift into drive. I am livid about the situation. While still paying a car note, I'm told I need to pay 5600 for a new transmission.

When I am driving my car will shift itself into neutral and stall out and then it will shut off when I am traveling 70 mph down the highway. Then when I have to turn it back on I have to turn the key then shift my car into neutral and let it coast a little so that way it will turn over. It has done this 6 times now and the last time this happened it broke down and it would not start back up. The last three time this happened I was on the highway, traveling about 70 mph. When it happened about the third time a different light came on saying my throttle peddle was going bad and that the ignition was going bad as well. I took it to go get the codes read but every where I took they were saying they could not help me and that we would have to pay out of pocket for it. Meanwhile my fiance and I looked up recalls on the Jeep Cherokee and there is recalls on the transmissions and other things as well. And all the recalls are for the 6 cylinder Jeep but my Jeep is having all the same problems that the 6 cylinder Jeep are having. But no one will help fix it. I have talked to Chrysler corporation 2 times an each time we talk to them they say it is not their problem and that it is our problem. My car is unsafe to drive and it do not trust to even have my family in it.

For the past year, the "service shifter" warning appears while I'm driving. To remove the alert, I've simply had to restart the engine and it clears out. I don't feel any differences to the way the car drives, so I'm assuming this is an electronic or sensor based alert. Taking it to the dealer, they want an astronomical amount of money to get this fixed. Most dealership do not know what is causing this and don't have information regarding the issue. I am requesting that an investigation is conducted regarding the root cause for this issue. According to the forums, this is happening to many different models of Jeep ranging from 2014 and newer.

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. While driving 80 mph, the transmission suddenly shifted into neutral and the engine shut off. During the recent failure, the vehicle stopped in the middle of the highway and had to be pushed off the road. The dealer (unknown dealer information) stated that there was no recall on the vehicle. The manufacturer stated the same thing as the dealer and referred the contact to NHTSA to file a complaint. The contact stated that the failure occurred five separate times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 82,000.

Filled up the gas tank and Jeep started stalling with in the first mile of driving, was thinking it might be the fuel cap so I tightened it and drove the Jeep for a few miles and everything went back to normal. Next time, after another fill up a month later, my car stalled when I stopped at a stop sign about a mile after fill up, I was able to pull over, and I checked the gas cap again to be sure it was tight and restart the engine, then while in motion going thru a turn at an intersection about 1/4 of mile down the road, it tried to stall again but luckily didn't completely shut off, and the transmission shifted to neutral, and the display said I needed to place Jeep in park then select drive. I was able to coast to the side of the road, and placed the shifter to neutral then back to drive. I proceeded down the road and the vehicle again shifted in to neutral and the display stated the same, to place in park then select drive. This all happened within two miles after filling up. I drove it anothe 60 miles or so after this with no problems. Had no real problems before this, other than the shifting lag everyone has complained about. All recalls have been addressed. Not sure if this is one problem causing the other or two separate problems.I will test it out on a back road and try to get a picture of the display if it happens again and plan a visit to the dealer for a service check after the holiday weekend.

The "service shifter" warning comes on the screen and all lights next to the shifter light up. This has happened several times, at highway speeds and in town driving. Has not happened when the vehicle is stopped. Restarting the vehicle appears to reset this condition, but it has come back multiple times.

Power train: Transmission has been making a large thug which makes you feel like you got hit by a car or puts a delay which you think the car stalls. Now the transmission is making loud noises and with a increase of temperature. This issue has been ongoing since we've bought the car. Every time we change the oil or bring it to the dealership, we ask about this issue. They did a software push but it still did it and the dealership seem to blow us off every time.

Drove the vehicle to work, everything was normal. Got in the vehicle to go home and the check engine light, service transmission light, and service parking break light came on. The vehicle shuts off while in drive and results in hard start with rough idle. The vehicle says that it is in park and needs to shift into gear in order for it to move. This vehicle was in motion and happened multiple times on city streets, highways, turning, and braking. This could result in a fatal crash for others on the road. ECU tcu ECM are believed to be at fault for this per Jeep. The Jeep is in shop and awaiting invoices to see if this fixes the problem. I believe it is the same recall as the V6 version.

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. While driving approximately 1-2 mph, the check transmission and parking brake warning indicators illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle also started to shudder. Additionally, while accelerating from a stop, the transmission experienced hard shifts between first and second gear. The vehicle was taken to don miller Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram Fiat (5802 odana rd, madison, wi 53719, (608) 270-5000) to be diagnosed, but the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure or retrieve a fault code. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.

The "service shifter" alarm comes on while I am driving and all the lights on the gear shift light up res. P rdn, all of it. The car still runs. This has happened 8 times now. I pull over and put the car in park, turn it off and turn it back on and it is all okay. The dealer said it just needs an update. Did that the first time it happened but is happening again and again.

  • 42,000 miles
As I approached an intersection and pushed on the breaks the car stalled out. Warning lights came on. After restarting the car it stalled out again when I tried to break a second time. This has happened at least 4 times. The last time it happened, the car stalled out in the middle of a main roadway as I approached a red light; I was almost rear-ended. I tried to restart the car. Once I got it restarted I tried to put it in gear and the car bucket and stalled out again. I tried a number of times to restart the car and eventually got it started. I eventually got it into gear and started to drive off the roadway. The car drove very jittery and with little to no power. Most warning lights on the dash came on - 4WD inoperable; put car into gear and restart, service transmission, traction control problem, battery problem. I have had it to two dealerships. Once said it was the battery; I replaced it. The other first said it was oil consumption with the engine but when that turned out not to be the case the dealership and Chrysler/Jeep are telling me that this is a problem due to overfilling the gas and that the only fix is not to top off the gas tank. Really" this only started at @ 42,000 miles. Also, I don't think the gas was topped off each time this happened. I also live in a state where you cannot pump your own gas so if the gas station puts too much gas in the car stalls and creates a safety hazard? how much is too much gas" there is nothing in the car manual. There is no warning in and around the gas tank. This is a very serious problem and causes a very dangerous car to operate. There either needs to be a real fix for this problem or the cars need to be taken off the road.
