I took my 2014 Jeep Cherokee in for a recall notice to have shift points changed. Upon receiving the vehicle back I noticed a thumping noise whenever the vehicle was not excelerating. I contacted the dealership to inform them the recall didnt work, took the vehicle back to have it looked at. Was informed that a new power transfer unit (ptu) needed to be installed and that it had nothing to do with the recall. I was informed the 5 year warranty had expired in April of 2019 even though the vehicle only had 69500 miles on it. After two week of the vehicle being in the shop I contacted them and was told that a new transmission needed to be installed and it wasn't the ptu. I had the repairs made only to find out a "certified" used transmission was installed and has to be returned as there is a hesitation between shift between 2 and 3 gear.

While driving our 2014 Jeep Cherokee latitude (3.2L) the service shifter light came on and all red lights appeared on the shifter console. It does not stay on after turning off engine, and has only come on 3 times over 2 months. It does not appear to effect the operating of the car. The dealer checked it out and says we need to have the floor shifter assembly replaced, and at a cost of $738.75. I could not find any recalls on it but I did see a lot of complaints upon searching online. So far it has only come on during highway driving speeds.

Very clunky and un even shifting. If I speed up and let go of the gas the wheels lock up and it feels like someone rear ended me. Sometimes when going in reverse and the want to go forward it seems the car can't find the gear and it get stuck in neutral for a while.

The August 2019 recall notice still has not fixed the issue with the transmission. It still fails to shift into 1st gear at a rolling stop.. at a rolling stop, it shifts into neutral and then hesitates for 1 to 2 seconds before shifting into gear. This hesitation can be dangerous when in traffic.

Recall: "2014-2015 Jeep Cherokee vehicles equipped with 9-speed automatic transmissions. The transmission sensor clusters may have insufficient crimps in the transmission wire harness, and as a result, the transmission may unexpectedly shift to neutral." I have a 2014 Jeep, this is exactly what my car is doing! my VIN# is not listed as having a recall on it?? this will just happen at any moment no warning, it will jerk forward sometimes, then others times, it just comes out of gear and the screen saids to put in park then back to the gear. Kinda hard to do that in the middle of the interstate or busy highway. (I'm going to get killed!) it seems to loose power/ it sounds/feels like it's stuck in a lower gear than it should be at times.

My daughters Jeep Cherokee sport 2.4L at 62000 miles has shut down with no warning while driving. It has stopped entering city streets and when braking hard to avoid another car. When the vehicle stops and suddenly its steering wheel gets hard to steer. The dash comes on with an error on screen saying, "car must be in park in order to shift." Turning the key does nothing until we try multiple times.

Cherokee

  • 77,800 miles
Intermittent jerky transmission shifting, typically at lower speeds (<20 mph). When this happens, often results in transmission error that states vehicle must be stopped or placed in park. Until stopped and put in park, no acceleration or ability to shift otherwise. Typically happens at intersections or stop/go traffic... very dangerous. We had the V69 recall performed... still happened. We took it back in and dealer replaced the tcm... still happens. Need to resolve before allowing my teenage daughter to continue driving vehicle.

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that the transmission failed. The vehicle was taken to auto plaza Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep Ram (12830 mo 21 highway desoto, mo 63020, 636-337-7777) to be repaired per NHTSA campaign number: 19V447000 (power train) and NHTSA campaign number: 16V529000 (power train). The repairs did not correct the failure. While driving various speeds, the vehicle shifted hard, jerked, and hesitated to shift into gear. When the engine was started, the vehicle entered into limp mode and the service transmission, service parking brake, and check engine warning indicators illumiated. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer numerous times for the failures. The dealer updated the engine and transmission modules and software several times; however, the failure was not corrected. The manufacturer was contacted. The failure mileage was 85,000.

I September I did the safety recall on my Jeep. My car still does not go when I step on the gas (it doesnt do it always) from a stop. I was almost side swiped waiting for the Jeep to decide to go. This is an on going problem and I was hopeful when there was finally a recall. Now that my daughter is about to turn 16 she is petrified to drive this vehicle. And I dont blame her. If I had the money I would buy a new vehicle. I just want to feel safe when I step on the gas to go from a stop. I dont want the vehicle to hesitate in going.

Was driving Jeep and it stopped complete forward movement, wouldn't rev or continue to accelerate at all. Service transmission, ABS, and traction lights came on the dash. Towed into dealership and read codes for a faulty wheel speed sensor as well. Reading tons of posts on here about people getting this recall done. Then a new bug gets updated to your software telling you to service shifter. Very worried this will happen to me after I get V69 recall done Monday. Transmission has been jumpy/rough shifting since I bought it at 69,000. Have come to accept the fact the 9 speed is a defective transmission. Very sad execution on this vehicles power train components.

Service shifter flashes across dash. All of the gear lights remain lit. Car jerks hard into gear. Car will only move in reverse. I have had several transmission related issues repaired by the Jeep dealership since I purchased the vehicle in June 2017. 6 months after purchase I started having transmission related issues. On 10/25/19, car would no longer shift into drive. I am livid about the situation. While still paying a car note, I'm told I need to pay 5600 for a new transmission.

When I am driving my car will shift itself into neutral and stall out and then it will shut off when I am traveling 70 mph down the highway. Then when I have to turn it back on I have to turn the key then shift my car into neutral and let it coast a little so that way it will turn over. It has done this 6 times now and the last time this happened it broke down and it would not start back up. The last three time this happened I was on the highway, traveling about 70 mph. When it happened about the third time a different light came on saying my throttle peddle was going bad and that the ignition was going bad as well. I took it to go get the codes read but every where I took they were saying they could not help me and that we would have to pay out of pocket for it. Meanwhile my fiance and I looked up recalls on the Jeep Cherokee and there is recalls on the transmissions and other things as well. And all the recalls are for the 6 cylinder Jeep but my Jeep is having all the same problems that the 6 cylinder Jeep are having. But no one will help fix it. I have talked to Chrysler corporation 2 times an each time we talk to them they say it is not their problem and that it is our problem. My car is unsafe to drive and it do not trust to even have my family in it.

For the past year, the "service shifter" warning appears while I'm driving. To remove the alert, I've simply had to restart the engine and it clears out. I don't feel any differences to the way the car drives, so I'm assuming this is an electronic or sensor based alert. Taking it to the dealer, they want an astronomical amount of money to get this fixed. Most dealership do not know what is causing this and don't have information regarding the issue. I am requesting that an investigation is conducted regarding the root cause for this issue. According to the forums, this is happening to many different models of Jeep ranging from 2014 and newer.
