I've had my 2014 Jeep Cherokee Sport automatic for less then 90 days - I just made my first payment on my vehicle 5 days ago. After filling up my gas tank to the top, my vehicle jerks while driving. I took it to the dealership, and after having it for 3 weeks because the car stalled on me while driving. It occurred after filling up the gas tank, not even 10 minutes after. Dealership stated that they weren't able to duplicate issue and to "video record" when issue occurs.
Fast forward 30 days after that and my car again stalled again, after filling up my gas tank to the top and it started to do the jerk again but this stalled again and "transmission service" and the appeared on my car and the check engine and traction control light is now on. Shut the vehicle off for a minute and now the traction control light is off but check engine light is still on. EXTREMELY PISSED OFF.
I see many people complaining for the same exact issue. JEEP NEEDS TO PUT A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE - THIS ISSUE IS DANGEROUS. My vehicle only has 66k miles - there's no REASON for it to have these kinds of issues. Upgrade my 2009 Kia Optima with 200k miles. NO ISSUES, I had it for years. Now when I upgrade to a 2014 Jeep and I'm having more issues in 90 days that I had with my '09 Kia in years. Any suggestion for issues? Going to dealership tomorrow.

This is the second time the transmission has had issues. Both times after we have filled the gas tank and driven a block. The first time nearly caused us to be in an accident and this time there was a burning smell coming from the vehicle. We purchased this vehicle as a certified used car, but if the transmissions were known to go out then it should have never been sold.
Update from Mar 12, 2019: The dealership fixed the problem. Apparently a sensor in the gas tank would trip codes that would cause the transmission to fail. The sensor also caused raw fuel to be pumped into the charcoal canister system which would also fail. Luckily I had purchased the extended warranty, but I still ended up paying $500.

I purchased a 2014 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk in April 2017 with around 18K miles. I noticed that the transmission was often in between gears (when pulling into traffic, at stop sign). My wife was driving home late at night on the highway on 2/22 when the "Service Transmission" light came on....The car asked her to "Put car into park"...She pulled off the highway and the car slipped out of gear at a stop sign. She turned car off, and was able to get back into gear. She was able to drive car home with check engine light on.
Car was brought back to dealer where it was purchased (Novak Motors- Lebanon, NJ), they sent it to local Jeep dealer (Johnson Jeep- Washington, NJ), where it is still today (2/26)....At this time, they haven't even looked at the car yet....Let's just say I'm not confident that they will be able to fix.
I have serious concerns about the safety of this vehicle. Any thoughts/suggestions on next steps are appreciated. I have contacted Jeep, U.S. DOT National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and Center for Auto Safety.
Update from Feb 28, 2018: TCM Flash Update performed on 2/26. Car seems to be fine at this time. Will keep an eye on it.
Update from Mar 13, 2018: 3/13/18: Car suddenly shifted into neutral while on highway at 60-70MPH. Back at dealer

This is the second time my Jeep has flashed the service transmission light and put itself in neutral. This is so dangerous! I have a two year old and I was on the Interstate traveling at 60 mph in heavy traffic! This could have been disastrous! After this happened the first time, I was told the vehicle needed a Software update to correct the problem. Now there is a recall regarding the problem! I really hope they get it fixed so I can trade it in for a Honda!!!

Brought the Jeep in for the recall on the transmission harness. Picked the truck up and three days later the transmission AGAIN shifts into neutral and shuts down.

Transmission dies a few weeks after purchase and dealer thinks it's a normal thing.

DRIVING AT FULL SPEED ON THE HIGHWAY THE TRANSMISSION SUDDENLY DISENGAGED, WHICH LED TO REDLINING THE RPMS, BECAUSE IT FAILED TO GIVE ME ANY CONTROL OF THROTTLE/ACCELERATION. I HAD TO GET OVER AND COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE "SERVICE TRANSMISSION" NOTE CAME ON THE SCREEN AS WELL AS CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THE TRANSMISSION SLAMMED A FEW TIMES AS IF IT WERE UNABLE TO FIND ITS GEAR. I HAVE IT AT A DEALERSHIP NOW, APPARENTLY BEING TOLD FLASHING IT MAY FIX THE ISSUE...HOWEVER, THAT DOESN'T MAKE ME FEEL BETTER WITH HOW THE VEHICLE ACTED OR IF ANY DAMAGE OCCURRED DUE TO THIS "COMPUTER" ISSUE. THIS IS OUR FAMILY VEHICLE, SO HAVING SOME MAJOR DOUBTS RIGHT NOW.
Update from Feb 6, 2017: Not 4 months following the dearlership "flashing" the computer system for the "fix" My 2yr old daughter and wife with me this time: Accelerating out of a driveway to turn onto a road with oncoming traffic, the transmission did it again, slamming out of gear, into neutral I guess- but also stalling. No power steering...just managed to get off the road to the side. I put it in park and turned off the vehicle. I then turned it back on, it took 5-6 times to actually start with the single turn of the key. The gears seemed off and not shifting correctly, so we drove it in the low 20mph range to our house. We spoke with Chrysler Jeep and then towed it to the nearest dealership again the following morning. We are awaiting a call on what's to be done...Had cars been coming, we would have certainly been hit and my family vehicle and family including me would be in the hospital or worse. This is NOT ACCEPTABLE. No explanation for the issue the first time- just a fix that obviously didn't work and the transmission has never seemed smooth anyway- just not responsive and shifts hard at times. This needs to be fixed, we cannot drive in this vehicle without a guarantee this ridiculous problem won't occur. It's a DEADLY problem depending on when it happens, and there is no warning at all.

When I stopped at a four way stop in drive, I went to go again and the car acted like it was in neutral. To get it to move I had to switch it to park and then back to drive.
We then brought the car to a dealership mechanic that stated there was metal pieces inside of the transmission, and that the whole thing needs replaced. They quoted us $10k, so we didn't get it fixed. We're just going to get rid of this piece of crap car while it's still semi-drivable.
