We bought this vehicle with extremely low miles for our teenage daughter. We have had the vehicle since December but the vehicle has been driven more frequently the past 5 months. It has stalled out on her over 5 times, just dying in the middle of road with no warning.

Took to Jeep Dealership, they did recalls on file and test drove and found the same problem. They then told us it was the fuel pump and wanted to charge $2100 to fix it.

First I want to start by saying it always had a little bit of a weird hard shift. I just assumed this was normal. Six months after purchase (a week after fully paying it off), as I climb a hill it stalls and sputters. This is when the check engine light and the red flashing lightning bolt of death come on. I decided to drive a few miles while it struggles to climb hills and acts as if it's running out of gas. I then pull over and shut it off.

Fortunately, the "you're f*cked" lighting bolt goes away but the check engine light stays on. However, I can at least drive it now without it jerking me around like an old wooden roller coaster. I finish up my day at work and climb back into my Jeep with fingers crossed till I reach an O' (we don't know what we are doing) Reillys so they can give me a rough guess of what my computer is screaming is wrong.

He says it's either the throttle body or the throttle body sensor. I decide it would be best to take it for a master diagnostic test but Carl decided to clear my code.....so I drive home instead. The next morning while heading to work, on the same damn hill it shuts completely off and won't start.

So as I sit in the middle of the road like a complete jack ass I come up with a plan. 1) Walk home to get my Van. 2) Call the dealership/tow truck. 3) Go to work. So I do all of the above. On my lunch break I drive out to meet the tow truck. But guess what...the son of a bitch starts without having a check engine light.

At the end of the day when I get home I decided to take if for a little drive around the neighborhood to see what happens and of course on the same hill the check engine light and the hideous lighting bolt are back. But now I have a code that can be checked out and Carl can't do a damn thing to stop me.

Car stalls and completely shuts off. Told its gas and not to fill up gas tank. Not sure how this effects the transmission. Car jerks into gear or right before shutting off. Shakes, is loud. Does this with or without filling up the tank. Car had barely half a tank when I purchased it and it did it then. The very next day. I have an extended warranty. And I believe the power train warranty still applies but they won't fix the problem. Keeps saying its not pulling or storing codes. Engine light and service transmission light comes on and stays on. Not on the next next. Hard starts. Trans is slipping.

We purchased the 2014 Jeep cherokee latitude with drive II in July of 2014. This car was to be used mainly by my husband and our teenage daughter. It had always had a rough jerking ride ( which for me was like whiplash). I used to complain about it but we had been told that Jeeps did have more of a rugged style ride since they are built to be able to go OFF ROAD. We had several issues, some of which were based on recall. A radio we couldn't turn off or the volume wouldn't go up or down, problems with the power window. These all seem minor and they were taken care of. Our biggest problem has been the transmission. While driving down the road, the car starts shaking, grinding sounds, dash lights flashing and then the car stalls out and just dead stops in the middle of the road. Had we been in a different place, we could've been involved in a severe accident. This was Saturday Sept 17th 2016. We took the car to the dealership Sept 19th 2016 and they ran the scans to not find any problems. They returned to us the car and told us to come back if things continued. We were back in the same situation within 5 days which was Sept 24 2016. This time our teenage daughter had been driving the car more often and we were once again thankful we were the ones in the driver's seat when it dead stopped in the middle of the road.This time the dealership kept the car for approx a week and then replaced the transmission but used a refurbished casing. The car seemed to have been fixed at that point. We had approx 24000 miles on the car at this time. we now approach January of 2017 and we are once again in the same situation of this car banging, clanging, stalling, shaking, rough riding, jerking, and dead stopping in the middle of the road. Several recalls and updates are done and now they tell us that they are replacing the transmission with a brand new everything and it will all be built based on our VIN#. Even when we discussed all the recalls, the dealership says recalls are normal. Uh No they aren't. I have leased a GMC Acadia for the second time around and there was only ever 1 recall on the 2013 and there has been none on my current 2017. So I don't buy that line of BS. We have had many discussions with the technician that this car is now what we consider to be unsafe and now we have to pull our young driver from the car to protect her life. We talk to him regarding the LEMON LAW and he states that it's been back to the shop so many times that we may have a case. We talked to the GM and we told him with CARFAX, we will NEVER be able to sell this car because no one would ever buy it. He states he understands and does make an offer to us of us buying something different but it would have to be a Chrysler product. We aren't interested in getting another car as we have made other changes in our household with transportation. We told him that we just wanted out of the car. He told us he couldn't buy back the car because the dealership COULD NOT RESALE IT with it's issues. He suggested to get our service records and file a complaint, talk to those who handle the LEMON LAW or to that we may need to get an attorney. The car still does NOT drive to our satisfaction and we have taken it back to the dealership once again 3/4/17. They ran scans, found no codes, and sent us on our way. The car is not reliable, It's not safe and we are paying a monthly payment on a car that we don't even want to sit behind the wheel in. I am an Insurance Agent and I handle claims and this should not be one waiting to have happen and God forbid to lose a life over. Does anyone out there have any similar issues, concerns, suggestions, or solutions. Please advise. Thank you and may we all be safe!

I strongly believe Jeep Cherokee owners have been swindled by Jeep. I have owned my Jeep 2014 Cherokee for almost 2 years and it has been a nightmare. I have dealt with so many recalls and transmission issues. I have had my car stall on me while driving on the freeway (in morning rush hour traffic about 6 times now) going 65mph. I luckily did not get rear-ended but it almost happened. I have had my car in and out of the dealership. I am now experiencing my car lunging forward when I am driving 10mph in a shopping center. I took my car in just recently regarding this new issue with my car jumping/lunging forward. They performed a S-55 transmission wire harness recall on it, my car is still lunging forward. Just the other day I was in a school zone driving 10mph and my car lunged forward, it took every muscle fiber in order to stump on the breaks with all my might. I could have killed a child. I could have killed someone......

Today I noticed my start button equipment has been replaced with someone else's old start button equipment. On top of fearing if my car is going to kill me, others out on the road when I am out on the road with them, or people walking on the street, now I have to deal with a dealer that has stolen from me as well. I am ashamed of the brand and disappointed with myself I choose to buy an "American" brand. I do not even know what to do. I opened a case with Jeep customer support but I know very well this too will be overlooked and ignored. If Jeep does not care that I have almost gotten in an accident or killed someone crossing the street why would they care if their dealership in Tustin in California is switching out a customers parts with old ones.

Took delivery of my 2014 Jeep Cherokee on 1/26/14. I do a LOT of driving for work and pleasure so I should have paid attention to my gut during the test drive and the rough and gutless shifting. Sales guy told me that I was just more accustomed to the CVT of my 10 year old Murano. Within a couple of weeks the transmission was beginning to shift especially harsh on down shifting to the point that sometimes I thought I'd been rear ended. Up shifting between 1st and 2nd gears was also rough. Also slow on acceleration and would shutter/shimmy at times. Contacted dealer and they told me to be patient with the car as it was "learning" my driving style.

On 3/1/14 after researching TSB's on the Cherokee regarding the same issues I was experiencing I returned the car for service, armed with the TSB's. My Jeep had only 1267 miles on it. Jeep back at dealer on 3/27/14 with 2024 miles on odometer for same issues plus it would not engage into reverse. 4/1/14, 2301 miles same issues back at dealer. 6/3/14, 5214 miles same issues. 1/27/15, 16267 miles dealer updated the PCM &TCM and performed quick learn & adaptive drive learn procedure for same issues.

3/16/15 at 18963 miles Jeep back at dealer for same issues. Filed a complaint with FCA and a 2015 transmission was installed. All was ok, but not perfect, still some rough shifting and acceleration problems but not too bad; until 9/16/16. While on the road and slowing to go over a speed bump it stalled and would not restart. Flatbedded back to dealer. Dealer could not find any issues so kept overnight so their senior tech could take a look. Next day I received a call that they had determined the problem was a part within the transmission that had malfunctioned and they were replacing it and I could pick up car at the end of the day. At 4:42 pm I received a call from dealer that transmission had failed and they had ordered a new one!! So.....this will be the third transmission this car has had in it's short life and I've secured a Lemon Law attorney.

Bottom line - Do NOT buy this car! The Jeep Cherokee with its ZF 9HP transmission is a very dangerous and unsafe vehicle. TCA claims they have fixed the issues but they are still a problem with the 2016's and I seriously doubt the 2017's will be any better. Other vehicles with this transmission include the Land Rover, Chrysler, and Acura models and all have had problems.

The car eventually re-started, we took it to the dealership and it is still there.

They cannot replicate the problem.

I have no idea what to do at this point and feel really disappointed in this car

Bought my 2014 Jeep Cherokee Latitude June 2014. Always shifted rough, told me it was normal till they came out with the module recall, did better for about a week and started again just ignored at least it ran.

Then on July 24th,2015 on my way to work the car started flashing the service trans, service engine, service brake lights and wouldn't accelerate. I tried shifting gears, putting into park, the only thing that helped was shutting off a few times then it finally drove again. When I took into dealer I was told they couldn't replicate the problem but maybe the car was hacked and did software updates that were supposed to fix the problem.

A week later I was driving to work and the car cut out on me same flashing lights on dash, thank God I was able to get over and get into a parking lot (as I had just come off the expressway!) And I shut off as before but this time it didn't want to move, with second and third try it began jumping and having trouble finding gears, by 4th try I was able to get to work.

Called dealer and after some dispute came to pick it up from my work but again I was told unless they can duplicate it they cant fix it!?!? I find that hard to believe with all the complaints I have read on the very same issues and the scary part is many of them have had there trans replaced but still having issues.

I've always been a Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge gal but I must admit I'm hoping to get out of it on a Lemon Law as I am afraid to drive it. Idk if Chrysler is waiting for a certain number of deaths before buying back or what but definitely concerned. I shouldn't be afraid to drive a year old car that I paid good money for!!! Jeep is at the dealership right now, hoping for some resolution, but don't know what they could do that would make me feel safe in my car again which is awful as much as I have to travel.

Just adding our experience to the LONG list of others who have had this now well documented issue. This is the third occurrence of the same problem. Without warning the car loses power, shifts into neutral, says to put it into Park and the trans ceases to operate. Yesterday this happened in traffic, which very nearly caused us to be rear-ended which could have been pretty serious. Yesterday as with previous occurrences, we were able to get the car powered down, restarted and after several attempts to shift into drive, finally got the car moving again. This takes several attempts though. Each time you try the transmission THUNKS like it is going to drop right out on the pavement, until at last the magic time when it shifts normally, but the check engine light stays on.

As I said, this is ongoing and we have so far been through numerous software "upgrades" and patches and a new Transmission Control Module. But the problem is back just the same as ever.

At the point now of waiting for Jeep to ok a new transmission. But, I'm wondering.....has a transmission replacement actually proven to be a long term fix for anyone? I'd love to hear if this step has proven to be a true fix for anyone over the course of ten thousand miles or so.

The truly sad part is that we LOVE this car in every other way. So disappointed to be looking at getting rid of it now.

So after the dealer did the update to my car (2 updates had to be done) to try and fix the shifting issue, it got by far got worse! The RPM would stay at 2 even though I was at a complete stop. The transmission light finally came on at that time and I took a picture of the dashboard. Glad I did because by the time I got to the dealer the problem wasn't happening anymore and the light was off. They ended up replacing my transmission. Less than 12K miles and not even a year old and I need a new transmission? Wow makes me wish I did not sell my VW that 202K miles and still ran fine without any transmission issues (purchased at half the price of the Jeep)! But maybe now I can enjoy my new car!

Ran new Latitude for 1.5 years with no problem. All of a sudden lat Thursday, when I put the car in reverse, it made a loud grinding noise and service engine and parking lights came on. It stalled, stopped the car, got it started, would only go about 35 miles a hour. Took it straight to a garage, he told me to call the dealer. Dealer had it towed, by the time they got it, it was dead. They wiped out all the preset codes and test run it a couple of days. When we picked it up on 6/14/15, it ran great.

This is the second time we brought the Jeep in for transmission issues. They need to order special wires to repair this newest problem. My husband travels about 15 miles to work. He reports that about twice a trip, the car suddenly dies. He has been able to pull over, sit for a few minutes and restart the car. I want a new car. This is so dangerous and scary.

I bought my cherokee less than a year ago and loved it right away. I dont drive that much so I have low miles on it. I got my first oil change may of this year, drove to ohio and back, no problems. Then about two weeks later drove back to ohio and everything was fine until I headed home. Half way home my check engine light came on. It felt like it was taking awhile to shift gears but made it home. Engine light still on. Took it in and they ran tests but the light kept coming back on. Now found out its going to have to get a new transmission! Brand new car and already a new transmission!!!

On Friday 14th November 2014 07:00 PM, the car completely breakdown without any prior warning or alert messages at, the message appeared at the time of shutdown is (smart key failure, steering columns is not locked as stated on the repair order), despite several attempts to contact MOPAR road assistance, but the number given was wrong. After many trails I delivered the vehicle to the services at 11:30 PM. Two days later I picked up the car after battery change.

•On 29th November 2014, the vehicle shutdown and every single warning message have been appeared on the dashboard, then, I delivered the car by breakdown. The warning message was “Transmission services”, the repair report stated that the dynamo has been changed only. •On 7th December, 2014 exactly the same thing has happened with small change that time, the car delivered to me by extra error “transmission performance failure”. Recently the complications rapidly increased, I delivered the car for the fourth time to services. •On 31st January, 2015 I delivered the car to the services by transmission problem. •On 02nd February, 2015, I received same phone call, one day later the car completely stopped in the middle of the road. •On 7th February, 2015, I met the service manager and he promised to solve the transmission issues as they received bulletin by the faulty part from Chrysler USA because it’s known problem. •On 09th February, 2015, I received a call from their engineer asking me to deliver the vehicle because new software just received. The car delivered on Saturday 14th February, 2015. •On 15th February, 2015, the implications evolved to engine problems- rough run, rattling, muffler rattling, and addition to transmission performance become very critical. •On 21st February, 2015 I delivered the car again to services and it’s still there.

Update from Mar 16, 2015: 16 March 2015- Service Transmission- Service park break- Restart in park with vehicle at zero speed- the car went to neutral mode

2014 Jeep Cherokee Latitude Major Repair Problems

I bought a JEEP Cherokee Latitude in April of 2014. Eight months later with only 14,000 miles on the vehicle major problems began.

Problem #1 - I began to experience automatic de-acceleration, stalling and heard a loud noise come from the engine. The check engine light appeared on the dashboard.

Dealership diagnosis - Technician road tested vehicle and verified condition - transmission shifts erratically. Valve body had to be replaced. The part was on back order and I had to get a rental.

Problem #2 - 12 days after getting valve body replaced, my transmission began leaking fluid.

Dealership diagnosis - Technician confirms leak and was instructed to replace transmission assembly. I had to get rental again.

Problem #3 - Two days after getting my JEEP Cherokee Latitude back after transmission assembly was replaced, problems with steering started and hood of SUV couldn't open. I am currently back in a rental and waiting for technician to diagnose the problems.
