Cherokee Trailhawk 3.2L-L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 34,833 miles

Finally, in May 2016, (34,833 miles) while driving up a long winding hill at about 40 mph the vehicle basically went into neutral and would not engage any gear other than park. With the help of a police officer I was able to back down the hill in neutral to a parking lot. Remembering past problems, I proceeded to put the vehicle in park, turn-off the ignition, restart the vehicle, and engage the transmission which never got out of 3rd gear on the drive to a Jeep dealer. Later a service manager told me that they refer to this as “limp” mode, which tells me a lot about what FCA knew of their 9 speed electronic transmission problems. In this case they found and replaced a faulty transmission valve body which facilitates electronic transmission shifting from one gear to another. After waiting almost three weeks, (the dealer had a backlog of transmission work), I had enough and again filed a complaint with FCA Jeep Customer Service (case #29135998). I asked to have FCA buy back this vehicle. They told me that could only be done through arbitration with the National Center for Dispute Resolution, NCDS. Because I anticipated this to be a long process, and was not going to allow another family member to drive what I now consider an unsafe vehicle, I choose to get rid this vehicle. As of right now I have no intention of ever buying another Jeep product, or recommending that someone purchase a Jeep product.

  • Automatic transmission
  • 35,840 miles

Bought the car in February 26, 2014. Returned to the dealership on March 12, 2014, and both front struts had to be replaced. Started having problems with the transmission in September 2014. Took it back to dealership the car was purchased from and was advised that it was "driveability" and updated the TCM. Drove ok until April 2015. took it to another dealership and the BC was reprogrammed. Took it back to the dealership on April 21, 2016, and the BCM was reset again. Took it back on April 22, 2015, and the transmission was replaced. Took it back on May 4, 2015, because the indicators on the gear shifter were lighting up while driving. They greased the TCM and valve body protector per the star center. Now July 2016, the new transmission is failing. Will Never, Ever buy another Chrysler/Jeep product. The cars are junk and Chrysler treats you like it's your fault instead of their crappy automobiles and crappy engineers.

I thought i escaped the dread tranny issues of this car, but one morning i got in the car and once i started up, the tranny warnings came on and the car would not go into gear. local dealership wants to replaced the transmission. they are waiting on a new one and there are 3 cars ahead of me. Chrysler is lost to me. i do not feel confidant in the new one being a fix, i may sell it and take a loss rather then getting stressed out fighting Chrysler over this. i think its time to look at a Japanese car :(

Cherokee Limited V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 8,000 miles

Brand new Jeep Cherokee has all of a sudden said "service transmission" and "service parking brakes" and suddenly come to a stop IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY at least 10 times. The problem is worse when carrying a heavier load. The car has been taken in for "software updates" to correct the problem on two separate occasions.

After the most recent time, the car transmission suddenly stopped five times while I was moving from my college in Tennessee to Texas, resulting in me having to make an emergency stop and leave it at a hotel in Little Rock, AR. That's also why this is being posted as a complaint multiple times.

As you can imagine, this is EXTREMELY dangerous and Chrysler hasn't fixed the problems in the 2015 and 2016 models despite the growing number of complaints.

Cherokee Latitude 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 32,000 miles

So, the transmission quit working twice on me, just would not go into gear. Was stranded both times 2 hours away from home. Actually missed a weekend getaway with friends the 2nd time it broke down as I was on my way there and the transmission went again. I'm lucky I was only 2 hours from home this time.

The dealership that has it has had it for 4 weeks now and is still waiting for Chrysler to approve a new transmission. It is more than apparent that Chrysler could care less about satisfying their customers by correcting obvious problems. I did an online Chat the other day and the girl assured me that she had escalated the issue with Chrysler and that someone would be calling me. I still have yet to receive a call so I call their customer service line and was told I need to deal with the dealership since it is warranty work. REALLY??? What kind of answer is that.

I want Chrysler to tell me what they are going to do for me since they are not getting back to the dealership. What kind of company is this??? I advise anyone out there to NEVER, NEVER, NEVER buy a Chrysler product because you will only get ripped off.

Update from Jul 12, 2016: I spoke with a Jeep Customer Service representative and explained my situation and how my Jeep broke down twice leaving me stranded both times 2 hours away from home. I only called because Apple Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep in Hanover Pa would not work with me at all on helping to get me into a new/replacement Jeep matching the payments I was currently making. All I was asking for was $5000 and considering I had the Jeep in for service numerous time and did break down twice miles from home I would think Jeep would not have a problem helping me out. The Customer Service rep was very upset that the dealership would not work me so she called them while I held the line. She came back to assured me that Apple Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep agreed to do whatever needed done to help me out. I went to the dealership the next day and their way of helping me out was asking for a $5000 deposit and to finance for 84 months....REALLY. They were supposed to help me. Obviously they are more concerned with making money than helping a customer that has a sincere issue. I never thought I would resort to social media reporting but I am definitely going to warn people about this dealership.

I was driving to work on a major Highway (I-91) in New Haven, Connecticut when my transmission died while I was driving in the middle lane. This was AFTER I brought it in to get fixed twice.

While on the narrow shoulder of the road I called the dealership to tell them IF anything were to happen to me there, that they should consider themselves as personally responsible. Car was towed to their dealership and I'm looking to get out of this lease. I have no confidence that they won't replace the Transmission with a rebuilt transmission with the same issue.

Cherokee Sport 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 17,786 miles

At about 9000 miles on my new, 2014 Jeep Cherokee Sport, the transmission started to occasionally shift hard, and bumped on the downshift just before a stop. Then, last week, first week of 2016, at just over 17000 miles, the check engine light came on. So I took it to the dealership. They said there was no code recorded in the Jeeps computer, and they sent me on my way.

Two days later, the engine light illuminated again. I returned it back to the dealership. This time the dealership updated the software in the transmission module. Off I go again. Next day, engine light came back on. Back to the dealership I go, and having to take time off work. Then the dealership replaced the transmission module and a fuse it blew. My fiancee drove the Jeep off the dealerships lot, late Friday evening, alas,on goes the engine light. Having to change our weekend plans, we dropped off the Jeep again Saturday morning. Then we get the phone call from the dealership telling us the Jeep needs a new transmission! WTF!!! Are you kidding me!!!

But now, as I see here, I am definitely not alone. I hope we can all get some kind of compensation for buying these lemons. We all work hard for our money, and we are losing it with these Jeeps. Thank you for reading this. Best regards, and best of luck to us all.

Update from Feb 16, 2016: New transmission is worse than original! it is now slipping badly between 2nd and third gear!

Cherokee Limited 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 14,000 miles

First the transmission was whining at 30 mph, I brought it to the dealer, they said it was down two quarts of fluid, due to a leak, then said it was due to overheating because of an oil pump. It was repaired, supposedly. Yesterday, there was a slight whining, slow shifting. No big deal. then I stopped for a light and that was it. I could not get the car to move, It wouldn't shift. the system told me to service the transmission, then the brakes. I shut the car off, and was able to shift into drive. I proceed at 20 MPH to head for home. Every time I stopped, I had to put the car into Park and then could shift to drive, It "clunked" into gear and I could slowly move forward. Fortunately, I wasn't far from home. The car was towed to the dealer, Chrysler paid for the first 17 miles, I had to pay cash for the tolls, again rent a car at my expense because I didn't buy the car from this dealer.

Cherokee Latitude V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 6,120 miles

First time to buy a Jeep, and it is going to be the last, it is just as simple. 9 speed transmission is a junk idea, it is not working. Had problems with it, 2 recalls and then in few occasions I noticed it shifted really hard specially when stopping and starting to move. Took it back again, did some reprogramming or updating what they told me. Then took a 4 hours trip, parked the car and came back battery is died. Transmission is died, check engine light is on and contraction control is on. Car didn't even move after the jump start. Luckily I had all my family in the car just before parking it in LA traffic. I am so glad it didn't die on me in the middle of the freeway. Now I won't trust it again, as I have read even installing a new transmission is not resolving the issue.

REALLY. Now I will have to drive it back home over 4 hours, not even liking the idea, but I will take nobody with me for sure. I am going to try and have them ship it to my location because I was on vacation and it totally ruined it. They refused to give me a loaner. It cost me over $500 because I had to rent a car and stay one extra night because it was on a Sunday. Tthen the next day they didn't give me any information on my car and had to rent another car for some of the family because they had to be at work Monday night, only one hour later they call me to say they will install a new transmission and be ready in 3 days. Drove back home and now have to drive back in another car to get it. I do hope they ship it which I doubt, will see tomorrow. This car shouldn't be sold anymore, but yet they know the problem and still sell it. unbelievable.

SO once again car codes on transmission pad, then refuses to go into gear, again a dangerous situation and have car towed in. Left the car at dealers for two months hoping they would just exchange, they offered a couple thousand but no solution to the problem. A brand new vehicle that does not work! IF I didn't work I would be fired. So IN ALL things evil my worst night mare. The other car from hell we lease decides to continue to have problems but these were even more dangerous, I needed a car and the dealers are but less than a half a mile from each other. I saw my Jeep still sitting outside. The guy in charge ignored me so I got my keys and left. After unloading my equipment, loading my equipment and my sick dad, I drove to dealer two, who let me borrow a gentleman to drive my Jeep to pick up our Fusion... Get this... I give him the keys he pulls out and really jerked us out of our seats he apologized and I chuckled and said welcome to my nightmare... He drove cautiously jerking us to the Jeep dealer were I grabbed a salesman and let him hear what the driver had to say.. Basically IT's not acceptable to let a customer drive such a mess... BUT get this being Jerked by the Jeep is better than being locked out of a car with no power going to locks, windows radios and heating and air conditioning.. But that is a whole other story...

After all the other problems we have had with this vehicle, the service transmission light come on about two miles from home. By the time I got home it would not hardly move. The tow truck came and picked it up on Monday and took it to the dealer. They called on Tuesday morning and said it was fixed? Went to pick it up. On the way home the service transmission light came on again! Pulled over on the interstate and called. They said to try to drive it back to the dealer which I did with the RPM's really high. They kept it a few more days and called me to tell me it was fixed again. This time I made it home. We have not driven it very much, but who knows what will be next!

Cherokee Limited V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 7,900 miles

Second time we had a total transmission failure on the car with less than 10,000 miles. How the hell can a car manufacture replace a transmission at 2400 miles and then it fail again at 7900 miles. Total and complete failure on the part of Fiat Chrysler Jeep. To release a car with know transmission issues just to make money and put people in danger due to the car totally shutting off when this happens is NUTS.

Update from Aug 17, 2015: Why is this car still being sold in the USA. I have done more research and there are so many other recalls and issue with this car it should be pulled off the road. Shock mounts could break, power lift gate could catch fire, UConnect security recall, and airbag recall. Possible cruise control issues. What else has to go wrong with this car for it to be pulled off the market?

Update from Sep 8, 2015: Three weeks in the shop and still waiting for a new transmission Now there are a total of six recalls for the car other than the transmission failing twice.

Update from Oct 6, 2015: Cherokee was taken by tow truck into the shop on 8/15 and returned on 9/29. Have initiated the buy back program which is a complete joke. The Jeep customer service desk had to escalate my case twice. I am now working with the correct group but they are completely in denial that this car is usable. How can one trust a vehicle that has had TWO total transmission replacements in 18 months and only 7800 miles.

Still have four recalls on the vehicle that don't have any resolutions. Jeep calls them enhancements and not repairs.

Update from Oct 9, 2015: After having the car for less than two weeks and maybe 100 miles on the second replacement transmission, we are having lag and surge issues with the transmission. I would not call that fixed. I am pursuing Maryland lemon law to hopefully get full refund.

Update from May 16, 2016: After getting a lawyer involved and submitting Maryland Lemon Law paperwork back in Oct. 2015, I have finally gotten my money back from Fiat Chrysler on May 12, 2016. It took seven months but well worth the wait as I no longer have to deal with this vehicle.

We need to call and complain. I've opened a case about it at the 800 number below about my 2014 Jeep Cherokee stalling on me in traffic with my family. I now need a new transmission. Cherokee

  • Automatic transmission
  • 21,000 miles

2 weeks after the system/software updates and 1 year of driving it with a jumping/knocking shifting, I was driving in rush hour traffic on a major highway and the car just STOPPED. I was able to coast to the breakdown lane, and I attempted to restart the car but it wouldn't start. Every time I tried to engage the the gears it sounded like the transmission was going to blow up, so I called the dealership.

I had it towed back to Jeep where they gave me a loaner (Chrysler 200 with the same transmission as my Cherokee the one with all the issues). Less then a week later the 200 did the exact same thing, it just stopped in traffic. They towed it back to the shop and they insisted on giving me another 200 which did the exact same thing that night, only this time I was in rush hour at night, with my daughter and I was unable to get to the breakdown lane. We were stuck IN THE MIDDLE of traffic.

I was very fortunate that we were not hit or killed. Its a week from the start of this all and I still don't have my Jeep back, I have had 3 different rentals (2 which have broken down on me). I am a Jeep girl at heart but they should have never release a transmission with so many issues.
