Have had several problems with the transmission over a few months. Jerking, thud, no reaction during acceleration, reduced braking response, increased rpms during shift change. Software upgraded, but problems actually worsened. Transmission finally crashed completely while driving. Chrysler has opted to replace the transmission. My advice is to approach your dealership immediately. You are not alone. This is becoming a safety concern.

I’m disappointed with “Dave Smith†in Idaho. When at the dealers, I inquired about the 9-speed transmission, and was told everything was running great, no complaints. I did a little research on line and found the Jeep was a solid vehicle. However, I now see that Chrysler has over 731 problems with the Jeep, and 373 problems deal with the transmission, including over 100 transmission failures.
My wife and I were returning my daughter to college in Rexburg, when the transmission shifted into neutral (while driving), and then back into gear. This occurred about three- four times. The last time it happened, the screen displayed “Service Transmission†once we stopped the vehicle would not travel forward. I cannot even begin to tell the number of phone calls we had to make just to get the vehicle towed into a shop. Since we were out of town and it was going to take over a week to get repaired (replace the entire transmission), we had to get back to work. We had another fight over a rental vehicle to get us home.
Now the vehicle is about ready, and we need to travel seven to eight hours to pick our vehicle up, and seven to eight hours to get back home. Am I wrong to think that Chrysler should compensate us for our time? Pay for gas? This is not a trip we were going to make at this time. It’s being forced on us because Chrysler produced faulty vehicles and allowed them on the market knowing they had problems.

No, wasn't killed in a crash but very easily could have been killed. The car did something similar at 2000 miles. Hard jerk like a shifting problem then engine light came on. Went to Auto Zone. They said gas cap probably not on tight but gas cap was on properly. Code said emission problem. No worries. At 3500 miles I am on I65 headed to Mobile from West Virginia. Car shifts with a major jerk, then I loose power. Gave it gas but it's coasting. Crossed three lanes of interstate to coast to side of road. Engine light battery light and service transmission light all on. Would not do anything. Turned off everything.
Tried to call Jeeps emergency towing number and got a sorry not available. Stuck on side of road middle of nowhere and almost dark. After about 5 minutes engine started. Engine light still on. Drove another 65 miles then same thing. Hard shift, lost all power. Battery light and engine light on. Coasted to side of interstate and turned everything off. Then restarted engine. 15 miles to Nashville. Hotel now. Jeep dealer 3 miles away. 400 miles to get home. I could easily have been in a major accident. I could have been killed. I travel for a living. Now what?

three hours from home while traveling at a speed of about 55mph took foot off gas pedal to slow down to 30 mph and it felt like the tranny fell out of the vehicle. the vehicle would not go so I pulled off the road and it would not go into any gear when shifting or stepped on gas ,even after a few tries. after multiple tries I got safely off the road and had to walk 2 miles to town and made contact with a jeep dealer who said to shut it off for a bit and it would reset itself. walked back and it worked and was able drive it again but service tranny notice and tranny light was on. tranny notice went off with a couple of restarts but light remained, was told as long as light did not blink it would be ok and it should be ok to drive, light went out after a couple of hours....then used vehicle for three days but going up hill it would rev to a high rpm while upshifting and back off quickly and bog down multiple times in a short distance...made it home and returned it to dealer for service...they had vehicle for 4 days and all they did was tweaked a few codes greased a few fittings but made no repairs...tranny shifting hard at twenty mph mark again and running but afraid will happen again.... nothing more they can do at this time....

2014 Jeep Cherokee Limited purchased brand new, at 3 months w/3500 miles transmission failed while traveling with my child in the Jeep on a very busy fast moving freeway. Took Jeep to dealer for service and I was told they contacted Chrysler and was told to replace the transmission. Transmission is being replaced and I currently have a rental car.
I have several more complaints about this vehicle like bad gas mileage, acceleration of speed even when gas pedal is not touched, rough gear shifting from park to drive or reverse and vibration and noise from engine. Overall disappointed and am currently looking at what are my options for this lemon.

Will never buy a Chrysler product ever again. Transmission went out going uphill at 11:00 pm in the middle of nowhere on a highway with my 16 month old, wife, and mother in vehicle. Took Chrysler two weeks to fix vehicle and still shifts choppy. Only 12,900 miles on it less than a year old. Worst part of all was "Chrysler customer care" did not adequately comp a rental car and was demeaning and patronizing. Jeep released these vehicles knowing they had faulty transmissions. Shame on them.

Bought a 2014 Jeep Cherokee - it has been in 3x since purchase! First two times were for the same broken exterior door handle that they couldn't manage to fix. Then the Transmission failed while driving and they completely denied that this was a widespread problem. My children or me could have been seriously injured or killed because of the defective transmission.
Research this online and you will find that this is a real problem. This could be bigger than the whole GM debacle. Jeep and it's dealers should address and fix this problem before people die as a result of their defective vehicle! Oh, and to top it all off, when I got my car back from the service dept. there are several scratches on it and a broken hood latch. Unbeknownst to me, I drove this car home with an unlatched hood. Nice work Fort Collins Jeep!

Problem began @ 600 mile mark. Front end would shake, chatter, vibrate in 2nd through 3rd gear. Had a dead spot in gas pedal as well. A TSB ( Technical Service Bulletin) was performed that I advised my dealership I found through a Jeep forum. At 1300 miles the TSB was performed. It took care of the hesitation, but did nothing for the wobble, shake, vibration in the front end. Chrysler was then informed thru my service manager. They made me a "Star Case", and asked me to bring the vehicle in so they could take pictures of the front axles and number's on them.
One week later I was asked to bring the vehicle in so they could replace both front axles. After putting on 500 more miles the shake/wobble disappeared on level ground, but was evident when going up hills. They said they were working on a fix, but would not say what! Chrysler sent me a survey this past Thursday as to how I like my vehicle. I filled out every possible line telling them how bad this thing was due to the problems. I received a phone call the very next day ( the survey was done via e-mail), and spent one hour on the phone with a Case Manager from Chrysler. On Saturday I went out to do some errands around town and my TRANSMISSION DIED. I all of a sudden had no throttle response, engine went to idle and the SERVICE TRANSMISSION LIGHT came on. I was able to pull on the side of the road and shut it down. I restarted it after one minute and the vehicle was able to get into Drive.
I drove the 4 miles remaining to my house when the TRANSMISSION SERVICE came on again. At this time I was in my driveway at least. I called my service department and they advised me not to drive the vehicle. The vehicle is now in the shop, and awaiting their next move. This makes the third time for TRANSMISSION problems. They have this and and only one more chance to fix it right or I GO "LEMON LAW". My service manager advised me that he spoke to Chrysler and suggested that they replace my vehicle at this time. Evidently he knows something is wrong and will not be able to be corrected.
NOW PLEASE PAY ATTENTION ALL YOU CHEROKEE OWNERS AS THIS IS MOST IMPORTANT. IT SEEMS AS THOUGH 50% OR BETTER OF THE VEHICLES HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS ARE THOSE THAT HAVE A BUILD DATE ( ON DRIVER'S DOOR) THAT WERE BUILT BEFORE 12/15/13, AND CHRYSLER KNOWS IT. IF YOU ARE ONE THAT HAPPENS TO FALL INTO THIS CATEGORY I SUGGEST YOU STAY ON THEM AS MANY ON THE FORUM I BELONG TO HAVE WHERE IT HAS RESULTED IN EITHER A LEMON LAW SUIT OR THE REPLACEMENT OF THEIR VEHICLE. GOOD LUCK TO ALL CONCERNED.

1st time buying a Jeep, definitely my last. Last month I did the factory recalls/updates so the can't say I wasn't in compliance. My 2014 Cherokee Trail Hawk on the parkway made a loud bang, and went into a dead neutral. I was able to get it to the side of the road. Shut the the truck off, and it was able to get into gear again when I tried. Dashboard looked like a Christmas tree, and the MPH's were gone. A flashing message said TRANSMISSION SERVICE.
I got the truck to the dealer, and dealt with a not so nice service writer. Told me never heard of a problem with a Cherokee before. I won't bore you with the jargon, long story short is they a replacing my transmission with a new one. Jeep wants mine back unopened so they can see what happened. Honestly thinking about trading in my truck to a competitive company and getting out of this problematic truck. Very disappointed to say the least
