High revving engine is not safe. I'm glad it was me driving, and not my wife! This is not a comment on her skills as a driver...just that I have a lot of experience driving less-than-perfect cars, and have learned how to compensate.
- Don W., Hansville, WA, US
Cruising on a slight downgrade at 50 mph. Foot off accelerator and brake. Engine starts to hunt over 200 rpm swings but there is no change in speed or transmission gear. When I put my foot on brake, engine slows appropriately.

Update from Aug 26, 2015: It has done this three more times, at 4365 miles, 4698 miles and 4701 miles. During the latest episode, we could feel a slight chugging of the vehicle.
Update from Oct 2, 2015: This may have to do with the Hill Assist feature. The vehicle does this too frequently.

I bought this vehicle for my daughter and no longer feel safe with her driving it. I am hoping the replacement transmission will resolve the issue, but will likely sell the vehicle and never buy another Chrysler product. I have owned over 20 cars in my lifetime and cannot understand how a new vehicle with less than 3000 miles on it needs a new transmission.......
- Douglas S., Dallas, TX, US
I've had this vehicle in for the magic "transmission reprogram" two times, no difference. I hate driving this car, it is annoying and I believe this is a safety issue due to the lunging forward and erratic shifting. I have come to the conclusion the dealer has "no fix" for this 9 speed trans! I have wasted $32000 for this POS!! Chrysler needs to recall these transmissions and replace with something that performs!
Oh did I mention, It is good looking!!!

I just bought this 2015 Jeep Cherokee two weeks ago and now have only 550 miles on it. I'm having the same transmission problems as what other people have listed. Very disappointing.
- mchevy, Harleysville, PA, US
My wife and I drove it on a trip that following weekend, probably around 600 miles. During the trip it still accelerated frequently while braking. Several times it was very noticeable acceleration. And once, going downhill, with cruise control on, on the expressway, it accelerated to 6 or 7 miles an hour above what it was set at, which was very noticeable. Applied brakes to shut off cruise, which then, later seemed to work Ok.
Schedule appointment back at Jeff Wyler for 11/24/14 to be looked at for 3rd time. I consider all 3 times this vehicle has been taken back for service, to be for dangerous behavior which could cause injury. Rolling back into street and multiple unintended accelerations.
On 11/26/14 was informed, by Dave King (service manager) after I called twice to get the status. That it needed a possible transmission flash and a new valve body installed in the transmission. That the parts would not be there until Dec 1st at the earliest. Told him that I need an equivalent vehicle not the tiny loaner they gave me and I need unlimited mileage not the 200 per day, because I was going out of town (Thanksgiving). He said he would check on this to see what is available and will call me back. We also had a discussion about Ohio lemon law and how many time this new vehicle has been back for service of safety related problems. I was provided a larger vehicle for a loaner as I requested.
On Monday the Dec 1st I was called by Michael from JW service dept. He told me that they had installed the new valve body and it did not correct the problem, So they were going to install an entire brand new transmission. It was due to be delivered in the morning, Dec 2nd and they hoped to have it installed the same day. Dec. 2nd and Dec 3rd went by with no call from them. So I called Dave King, the Service manager's phone around 4 Pm and left a message that I needed to know something. Was the transmission even delivered, had they installed it and had problems?? No call was received back that day.
I also spoke to William who is the Case manager at Chrysler Corp. I had emailed them about my problems sometime last week. It took me 3 calls to get him on the phone. I was not impressed. This felt like a very futile exercise. He would say things like: "so let me see you've had some transmission problems" and when I talked he talked over me saying thing like: "yes, yes, I understand" while I was trying to explain the seriousness of these safety related issues. He did this to the point that I just stopped speaking. Then he immediately said "I'm sorry". He said he would call me back on Friday Dec 5th to see if the transmission got installed.
At this point I would like for Jeff Wyler to assist me in getting the Chrysler/Jeep Corporation to buy this vehicle back under the Ohio Lemon Law. Which states:
1 attempt has been made to fix a problem that could cause death or serious injury. (This is at least #3) This vehicle accelerates on its own while you are braking in a straight line or in a turn.
- Clifford C., Amelia, OH, US
Every time I slowly brake coming towards a stoplight, the brake would engage but halfway through, it seems to feel like it applies more brake than the amount I'm stepping on for a short amount of time and I would feel a slight jerk and then it would let go. I Have driven many cars and none of them feel like this so I know its not me.
I think this is also related to the issue where the rpm would spike as its downshifting causing you to feel like your jolting forward as this happens to me too if I slow down and don't apply the brakes. It feels like its happening in 3-4th gear. I took it in to my local dealership and they flashed the TCM but still has this issue. I tried turning off the hill assist as i saw someone mentioned that it would help and it makes no difference. Don't really know what to do but to keep complaining about it as the dealer keeps saying that its normal so I'm hoping more people complain about it so they will fix it.

Same as all other complaints. Car's RPM shoot up when I am going downhill and break. I bough the Jeep in January of 2015 and within weeks noticed this issue. It also would accelerate without me applying the gas pedal. They said it was a recall issue and then they replaced the entire transmission.
Got the Jeep back one week later (after missing a week of work) and problem persisted with the RPMs spiking. Also noted that when in cruise control, it won't hold that speed going downhill and has shot up to almost 10 miles over what I programmed in. I am now bringing it in for the 3rd time in 7 months. Will declare a lemon or join the growing number of complaints in a law suit.
I owned a Wrangler for 10 years and a solid car, loved that Jeep. Should have stuck with the Wrangler.

These Jeep Cherokees are junk. After buying the 2015 Cherokee had nothing but transmission issues. My other concern is because there is so many transmission issues with these Jeep Cherokee's 2015 how is that effecting our resale value on this car.
I wish I never would have gotten this Jeep Cherokee.
- davedg, Canton, OH, US
When cruise control is engaged it doesn't hold the speed down hill. When set at 60MPG on a down hill it gets up to 70MPG with RPMs jumping up to 5500RPMs. This problem can cause a series accident or at the very least a speeding ticket. I don't recommend purchasing a JEEP at this time.
Update from Jul 16, 2015: The cruse control varies more than any car I have ever owned!!!! I now have over 2000 miles on my new Jeep and the shifting is much more radical than when it was new.
Update from Dec 20, 2015: I now have over 6000 miles on it and have learned a great deal about handling steep downhill grades. I move the shift knob to the left and shift to 6th gear just before entering the grade, it holds. Yes, the transmission takes some getting used to but I have learned to control it and now like it. The 9 speed allows this 3.2 v 6 to be quite speedy and fun to drive.

I've been having the transmission problem since I bought the vehicle in February 2015. We drove the vehicle for a while thinking that it was something that would go away. The problem continued to get worse. The vehicle continued to try to accelerate when coming to a stop and slowing down.
I finally took it to the dealer today for a recall item and a transmission check. I was advised by the mechanic and service person that basically there was nothing they can do about it. They said they made some type of programming change and that I needed to drive the vehicle for a long period of time so that it could get use to my driving style (I never heard that before). Seeing that my wife and I drive the vehicle, that's not going to change a thing.
I think that Chrysler has installed faulty transmissions in all of the Cherokee vehicles. I have a co-worker who owns a 2014 Cherokee. His vehicle was doing the same thing. They had had to replace his transmission after the so-called reprogramming did not work. I can foresee a costly future for Cherokee owners if this problem is not resolved within the warranty period. It appears that they need to replace them all or allow customers to return the vehicles with a full refund.
If anyone has information on starting that process, please advise. I must say I am very disappointed with the vehicle and the lack of concern by the dealership and Chrysler.

When going down a hill or braking my Jeep seems to downshift and accelerate. Also, noticed while driving that it rarely goes in the last gear, causing me to loose MPG. It seems I have to keep letting off and putting my foot back down for it to finally go into the final gear and get better MPG's and RPM's. Called dealer and said it was norma.l
Update from Feb 18, 2016: Many miles later, still doing the same thing. Went to dealer for engine problems, they are replacing the transmission. almost 10,000 miles
Update from Mar 1, 2016: Still downshifting high RPM's going downhill. Called Chrysler Corporate, and have a case number opened. Brought back to dealer says everything is 'normal'. I had Chrysler make an appointment with another dealer to verify. My car didn't do this when I purchased it... Shouldn't be doing it now
Update from Jan 12, 2017: I'm still having problems with the transmission. This has been to the dealer about 7 times this year alone. They keep saying nothing is wrong, but there obviously is. I was told there could be a problem, but if they cant reproduce it then they can't do anything. I big hills it downshifts on my and pushes me down the hill. I almost hit the car in front of me because I couldn't get it to slow down.

Dealer claims to not know anything about it. Car is booked in next Monday for its first service and they will check this problem. It's bad and very dangerous. Not sure if I can let my wife drive it like this. An accident will happen. The bloody thing accelerates on its own when you are slowing down.
Stay tuned.

Have to drive to dealership again. It is a real pain to drive the 45 min. to bring it in again. Still not shifting correctly. Just want it fixed or give me something else. My husband works offshore and he is out for 2 weeks at a time. Scared to drive it when he is not around.
- Dana L., Crowley, LA, US
Transmission replaced. Dealership then stated all repaired. All Jeep recalls not done. Vibrations started and shifting issues ensued. Dealership called to see how things were going and they were informed of issues and the tech said "Oh I noticed that". You need new axle shafts, we have another Jeep here with the same issues. WFT???? Jeep service said these shafts will not be available until September....... I wouldn't whizz on a Jeep if it was on fire.
- Brian P., Rockport, ME, US
Almost every time I attempt to come to a stop, the vehicle lunges forward. I've almost rear ended people. There is a HUGE problem with the transmissions in these vehicle. It seems Chrysler couldn't care less. My car has been in numerous times with an array of problems where their answer is... We have no fix... sorry. UNACCEPTABLE.
File complaints people!

Called to tell dealer I was tired of the Jeep and was concerned it was a LEMON, said it had been doing this now for around 2500 miles or so. New Jeeps should not act like this before first oil change.
Was told we could flash the transmission control module (TCM) and this was the first step needed to be performed, I asked why it took this long to come up with this idea and was told they just were made aware of the problem from FCA in a service bulletin.
Scheduled to bring it in on April 3rd 2015
Update from May 25, 2015: So got the Jeep back today and it seemed better shifted firmer, could actually feel it shift when accelerating. Time will tell, as they say it has to learn our driving habits all over again.
Update from May 25, 2015: So been driving it more still acting up, called dealer to follow up on my PAPER TRAIL, in case this is a major issue to someone other than me.
Still feel like I am a LONE WOLF here cause the dealership and people I talk to seem to think I am crazy. Always no problem found, or it NEEDS TO LEARN. BS, it should learn by the time I have gone down to highway to another town and driven all over that town then driven back down the highway back to home. several times and different drivers. Been going on 4 months or more.
Scheduled to have recalls done for Air Bags and Transmission update, we will see. Appointment on 5-11-2015

So the day of our service appointment has arrived and we are on the way to the dealer to have our RECALLS done. R05 Reprogram occupant restraint control module, R01 Reprogram TCM and PCM per spec.
On the way to the dealer it was a very hot day here in Knoxville, and traffic was bad. Jeep was really shifting badly and SURGING awfully. But we sort of were making good time to our appointment until the JEEP crapped out and went into limp mode a mile from our exit.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, CHECK TRANSMISSION notifications came across the HUD screens and UCONNECT told us to get service ASAP.
When we got off of the highway and were trying to make our red light, the Jeep would barely move. LIMP MODE is not fun, everything was haywire my phone was not connected to Bluetooth and it was still talking through our speakers about service soon, we tried to go when our light changed and almost got hit by a police car that had time to come over the hill and almost T-bone us before we could move out of the way.
Finally made it to dealership. Was told it was normal on hot days for a tranny having issues to act weird and they would check it out and flash the recalls.
They came back and said tranny was bad.

Automatic transmission was unstable and potentially dangerous. Engine repair light remained on constantly. Dealer reported problem to manufacturer. They will replace transmission.
- hoslo, new paltz, US
When at speeds around 26 to 34 shifting from 3rd to 4th or 4th to 3rd, the Jeep lurches and RPM accelerate, odd feeling. Took to dealer for program, still doing it.
