Cherokee Trailhawk 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 8,580 miles

Lost ability to accelerate on interstate going 65mph. Car was "running" but not "going." Pull over, stopped on hill. Car would not engage into park. Emergency brake inoperable. Had to sit in vehicle in breakdown lane with both feet on the brake for 45 minutes until wrecker arrived. PTU failure confirmed by Jeep service. Replaced and resolved.

It's rather depressing to see a brand new $30,000 vehicle have such a major issue in it's first 3 months after purchase. Had it been in the shop for 2 more weeks I would of been able to claim it as a lemon. Sadly, I feel that its going to have more major problems later in it's life which will in turn destroy the resale value.

Update from Nov 4, 2016: Failure of the PTU at ~4000 miles. Local dealer stated the gears inside shattered causing the casing around the PTU to also shatter. PTU was replaced. Took around 2 1/2 weeks.
