Basically, each time we started the vehicle, the passenger side AC/Heat would turn on with max fan and max heat. Occasionally, both sides would do this, but predominantly the passenger side. I would be driving to work on a 30 degree day and my right side would be on fire before I realized that my A/C was on max, but the passenger side was on MAX HEAT.
Brought it to the dealer a total of 7 times in the first few weeks I had the car. In the first 6 weeks I owned the Jeep, it was at the dealer for 5 of those and resulted in 1200km put on the vehicle just to bring it to the dealer for this. The first 2 times they said they could not replicate it and asked me to try and see if it occurs again. It did, so it went back. By the 3rd time they realized I wasn't just screwing around and did some digging.
They replaced a pinched o-ring on the A/C system that they though might be telling the computer it's cold so it put on the heat. Occurred again. They kept the vehicle for a week this time and claimed that it never occurred to them so they wanted the rental back. I went to pick up the vehicle, started it and it occurred right there in the parking lot. Service manager came over and told me to get the rental again. This time they kept it order parts and replaced the BCM. Still occurred and they said there was nothing else they could do and fully planned to leave me with a broken vehicle.
So, I reached out to Chrysler Canada and after extensive convincing, they did some digging into the actual software which I suggested from day 1 (I work in IT). They finally said they found an issue in the code when it translated Fahrenheit to Celsius and got an erro then the fallback was to turn on max heat. So, they grudgingly suggested trying the BCM firmware from a similar dodge RAM. Issue was resolved (mostly). It has happened maybe 3 times in the last year, but that I can live with. Now, every time I go to the dealer and they want to update firmware or whatever, I have to beg them not to as I don't want to go through that fight again.
