My daughter who is 18 was going to visit her dad. She came to a stop light at a complete stop when air bag light came on and check engine light. She was going to pull the car to the side to call me. When she press the gas the car went in reverse almost hitting the car behind her. She was so scared she looked down to make sure the car was still in drive and it was still in drive and going in reverse. She was able to turn the car off and reset the lights and drive the Jeep. This is crazy with all these complaints and nobody do anything. Jeep should be responsible and fix this issue. My daughter could have been seriously hurt

Check engine light comes on and the vehicle stalls while driving. Dealership claims low oil between oil changes, we have the oil changed regularly at the dealership and do not exceed the recommended mileage between changes. This has occurred on main roads during times of high traffic and has put my family in danger on several occasions. This started happening with less than 20,000 miles on the vehicle and has happened a total of five times now. The vehicle now has 36,000 miles on it and I'm tired of dealing with this issue.

My 2017 Jeep Cherokee has been randomly throwing a service shifter warning on my digital dash (the middle of the cluster) since 2018 I took it to waxahachie autoplex the dealer I purchased the car from and they told me there are no recalls. I was informed they could replace the shifter at my cost and that if I bring it back I will need to pay to have it looked at. This light still comes on when the car is in drive but it is random some times at a stop light, driving down the road, or immediately after the car has been put in drive. I figured if I wait a few months there would be a recall or a fix for this issue but over two years later there is still no fix for this problem. I have looked on google and found multiple chat groups of people that are having the same problem. I do not understand how something this major can just be swept under the rug like this! please help Jeep get it together and fix this problem! note this has not affected the drive-ability of the car yet its just nerve racking.

*service shifter* motion* *stalled* the following is the same issue I had with my 2014 Jeep Cherokee. I had traded that vehicle in for a newer 2017 model because of this... I have a 2017 Jeep Cherokee. Occasionally when driving at any speed the vehicle will stall and say "service shifter, place car in P or N" - I can no longer accelerate and have to come to a complete stop. Turn off the vehicle. Restart it after several minutes. When I try to restart, the engine has a tough time kicking back on.this is a very dangerous recurrence and must be dealt with immediately. This is the second report I have made. The first report was with my 2014 Jeep Cherokee.

Started my 2017 Jeep Cherokee, like any other day, drove 30 seconds down the road and I thought my battery was going dead. Car shut down radio and lights were still working fine. Wasn't battery, it was my shifter, I had to turn my car off in an attempt to rest whatever the problem was. My Jeep started back, I then turn around and go back home. '30 seconds later in my driveway it happened again'. this is a very unsafe condition, luckily no one was behind me when my car lost power. I had my shifter replaced last year yet it's still causing me problems.

This car burns oil at an extreme rate, I've had it checked out for consumption tests after every 1,000 miles- it is always low on oil. With no answers from Jeep who is performing these tasks. Currently the car has been since about 25,000 miles- (im sitting at 51,000 now) shaking between gears, the RPM gauge tac jumps around, the car seems to struggle running. Every time the car is taken in - I'm told the car is running correctly even with high oil consumption as well as issues with transmission and that this is Jeep standard. I have yet to have anything resolved since I've been told there are zero problems or the dealership cannot replicate the issues I've had. A less than 3 year old car should not be burning more than a quart of oil every 1,000 miles. This is a car that has a standard of getting oil changes every 6,000 miles. How is this following Jeep standard. If I followed this standard I would be pulling my car into a dealership every recommended 6,000 miles with zero oil. I've had a starter explode in my engine, had it fixed for it to only do the same issue a week later. When in motion my entire car hopps around, its nearly impossible to take it on the expressway because I know its so dangerous. I cannot trust this car going over 55 miles an hour. I've given up hope in Jeep and still continue to get my regular work done to keep the car barely functioning. 51,000 miles. A car that as gotten an oil change every 1,000 miles the last two years. And has had complete regular work done on it. This is not okay. This is dangerous.

I get a notice of 'service shifter' sporadically. I'm highly concerned this hasn't been a recall considering the accident I just heard about and I've almost experienced. I was unable to get out of gear when this message came on. It's happened while in drive, reverse, and park.

I was pulling out into traffic and the car transmission just stopped going. It almost cost me my life. The check engine, service transmission, service parking brake, and the traction control system all lit up on the car. This is the 2nd time this happened. I took it to the dealer and was told that all Jeep Cherokee manufactured in 2015, 2016 (may also include my 2017) have had this problem. It took them forever to figure it out. In the meantime, I'm incurring rental car fees and have zero idea of what it will cost to fix. Jeep should recall and fix this problem at their expense not that of the owner. This happened approximately 1 year ago same thing except that the vehicle did not stop moving it just took forever to get out of first/second gear.

We bought this car used, so no longer have a warranty first of all... but 3 times so far in this little amount of time, the dash will light up & then "service shifter" pops up. It will not go off until you turn your car off...which if your driving down the interstate, you will have no access to your speed or anything. I looked it up, & our car is not the only one to do this...& dealerships claim they have never heard of it.

  • 30,000 miles
The car's cruise control was engaged while climbing a slight hill on the freeway. The car failed to stop accelerating at 60 mph (set speed limit). The cruise control button nor pressing the brakes would disengage the system. After approximately 10 seconds, the car accelerated to 75 mph and finally disengaged. This was during the night, with moderate rush hour traffic on highway 16 near port orchard, wa. The dealer (West hills Chrysler, bremerton wa) cannot find an error code and refuses to repair the vehicle. I deem the vehicle unsafe to drive while using the cruise control system.

Getting a service shifter light coming on while driving on both highway and city streets while moving. All the shift positions light up on the gear shift and the main display shows "service shifter". after research, I find many many complaints of this same problem on multiple Jeep Cherokee message boards online. Many stating that it comes back after "repair". https://ca.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-T68742_ds990296 first occurrence was in November of 2019. No rhyme or reason to when it happens.

While in motion, a service shifter notification pops up. At the same time, all of the gear indicator lights next to the gear shifter light up. Over the past 3 weeks this has happened 4 times, 2 of which have occurred in the past 2 days and 66 miles apart. I've attached photos of the notifications from the 2 most recent occurrences, along with a photo of the illuminated gear indicators. A quick internet search revealed this is a very common issue with this vehicle with hundreds of complaints across various Jeep forums.

Service shifter light came on and gear shift lights are all red, P, R, N, D during motor operations turning/pulling into my neighborhood. Approx. Speed was less than 20 mph. Upon shifting to park and turning the vehicle off and then back on the error message disappears and shifter lights are no longer red. Has happened three (3) weeks in a row on wed, wed, and tues at approx. 5:45 pm. Service appoint scheduled tomorrow 02/19/20 with the manufacturer. Approx. Mileage on vehicle when error first occurred was 43K. Was told the power train warranty may not cover the issue. Researched online and found numerous individuals expressing the same exact issue, particularly after 36K miles.
