This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Jeep dealer.
2019 Jeep Cherokee Trail Hawk. On trip home, RPM exceeded (Per on board report), loud noise from behind/under steering wheel area, vehicle lost power to transmission, lots of grinding and engine revving due to the cruise being used when the PTU died. Had to be towed to a local dealer. Jeep is still sitting in another state than where I live with no resolution from Jeep. It is a warranty covered part and confirmed by dealership it is the PTU. Jeep Customer Care is a joke as it took 8 weeks for rental reimbursement agreement and have still not received the first check. I am out of pocket 700 per week for rental car. Communication from Customer care is limited and disjointed.

I was traveling on Route 78, a major highway from PA to NJ, when my car had a catastrophic explosion, without any warning, while I was driving. The car was running smoothly prior to the explosion. I do not know how I made it to the shoulder because once there I was unable to move the vehicle. I was on the shoulder and tractor trailers driving 70-80 mph were coming toward me and crossing over the white line into the shoulder. I truly thought I was going to be hit and killed. I had the car towed to my mechanic who informed me that the explosion occurred in the Transfer Case which could have caused a crash injuring myself and other drivers on the highway. My mechanic suggested to have the vehicle towed to a jeep dealership for further investigation and repairs knowing that Jeep Cherokees from 2017-2019 had failed transfer cases installed.
The dealership has informed me that I am responsible for the parts and labor because the power train warranty expired and my VIN number was not part of the recall. I have incurred towing expenses, rental car expenses and diagnosis fees and I am still without my vehicle. The quote I was given is for $3400.00 plus tax. This occurrence happened due to no fault of my own. I feel that the recall should be expanded to include my vehicle. There is no loaner car available to me from the dealer and now they cannot get the part for 2 more weeks (it has already been one week). This car only has 48,000 miles on it so this should not have happened.
