We live in a fairly hilly area and they just so happen to be doing road work in a rolling hill area where I commute daily. On the way to drop my son off recently, we were sitting in a line of traffic. I was sitting on a small incline with my foot on the brake as traffic was at a stop for the road construction crew. Several times the engine surged and the RPM's jumped to 3 for absolutely no reason! I was sure to keep my foot firmly on the brake. I can see trying to explain that to a police officer or my insurance company. "No officer, I did not run into them! My car did it on its own! I swear my foot was on the brake the entire time!"

Purchased Jeep Cherokee in AM. Had problem abut Noon. THE ENGINE BEGAN TO SURGE REPEATEDLY WHILE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. THE TACH WOULD CYCLE TO 2000 RPM AND RETURN. IT CONTINUED TO SURGE UNTIL THE TRAFFIC LIGHT CHANGED AND I DROVE OFF. THIS SCENARIO REPEATED FIVE OR 6 TIMES AT EACH STOP UNTIL I GOT HOME. I Returned to dealer that afternoon. THERE WERE NO OCCURRENCES ON THE TRIP TO THE DEALER.They checked for codes in computer. No ADVERSE CODES WERE STORED. No further problems until yesterday.* Special note; The car is equipped with simple hand controls consisting of clamp-on rods for the brake and accelerator pedals. They are alternately pushed by my left hand. I checked to be sure that I did not have my right foot near the accelerator and that there was no interference between the brake and accelerator clamps nor rubbing against the floor sidewall. I am certain the hand controls were not causing this problem.

Update from Aug 12, 2019: Yesterday, with about1100 miles on the odometer I detected erratic acceleration when starting from a stop. The intensity ranged from just detectable to a stumbling acceleration with the transmission looking for the right gear. This condition lasted for the entire morning while I was making short trips. Thinking it might be related to the "gas saving" idiotic feature that's cycles the engine off and on, I disabled it by pushing the "A" button on dash. BTW I also tried this when the engine surging at stop lights occurred in the previous post. AGAIN, SWITCHING THE ENGINE KILL/START FEATURE OFF AND ON HAD NO DISCERNABLE EFFECT. I haven't contacted the Cherokee dealer yet as he is 60+ miles away. (I sometimes go to extreme lengths to save a buck but often find this is false frugality). And I know before making the trip that there will be no error codes stored on the computer as it is once again running smoothly. It goes without saying that the dealer isn't likely to replace an electronic module or relay, etc without more evidence. These surging-stumbling affects drivability which could be a hazard in certain circumstances. In any case I damn sure don't think it should occur on a brand new car.

My 2019 Jeep Cherokee has several issues, a few of which are it revs high when on any kind of incline or decline and there is great hesitation on normal acceleration. I don't have confidence that if I pull out into traffic that the car will respond properly or won't completely shut down, which it has done on 3 different occasions. The vehicle has several issues, and apparently Chyrsler/Jeep won't take responsibility for the poor engine design of the 2.4 Tigershark engines. These are dangerous issues that are of great safety concern. Do people have to die in order for jeep to take responsibility and fix the problems?
