high oil consumption

On 08/15/2018 I dropped my 2019 Cherokee off at the dealership for an appointment I already had scheduled for transmission issues and radio issues. The night before I checked the oil in the vehicle as I always do bc they were doing an oil change for me and I like to verify the oil level as well as the color. I noticed the oil was way below where it should be on the dipstick so when I dropped off the vehicle for my appointment I brought this to their attention.

The dealership called me later in the day and said when they performed my oil change that it was short by 1 qt of oil meaning the Cherokee had consumed it bc they were no leaks they said. I questioned a branch new vehicle consuming oil and the dealerships response was "you can expect to burn 1 qt of oil per 1,000 miles you drive". Uh, what!?! I find it hard to believe a vehicle that is brand new should be expected to burn any amount of oil. I have own 12 different cars in the past and not one of them consumed any oil in between oil changes. The dealership will now be performing an oil consumption test with which consisting of me going in every 1,000 miles or when the Cherokee is 1 qt low on oil to see whether or not I need a new engine due to defect.

Update from Aug 22, 2018 While my Cherokee was in for the issue with its defective seatbelt and taillights allowing water to get in them the dealership measured my oil and found it to be low again and deemed the engine to be the issue. A replacement engine has been ordered and will be put in on 09/05/18.
