on May 3 at approx. 4:00 pm I was sitting at a stop light and when it turned green I started to accelerate the jolt was so hard that I thought the car behind me had hit me.When I went to go again it started rolling backwards and I applied the brakes.I could not put it in reverse or drive or even in park; it just kept rolling down the ramp.I applied the emergency brake to keep it from rolling back onto the highway.I called the Jeep dealership closest to my home and they said it sounded like the TPU went out. There were no recorded messages on my computer system in the jeep. I had it towed to the dealership and after a couple of days, I was told the rear differential was going out as well and that it was going to cost a couple thousand dollars. After doing a little research I found out there was a recall on Jeep Cherokees in 2016-2017 for the exact same thing!I also discovered that when the TPU goes out it damages the rear differential and the transmission, so they are connected; not separate as the service manager lead me to believe. This Jeep is 2 years old and has 70,000 miles on it. The drive train is out of warranty by 10,000 miles. The car is mainly used on the highway and has never been off-road.I changed the oil regularly and took excellent care of it. It is I still consider to be a new vehicle. When the service manager tried to order the parts he was told they were not available due to issues."I contacted customer care at Jeep Wave and they told me that since it is out of warranty they would help; but not much!I have been without a vehicle for almost two weeks now and I was told it could be months and expensive! If the transmission needs repaired it will add another $10,000 to the bill. I drive for a foster care company and now these children are not allowed visits due to this situation. Why is there no recall"

On [XXX], we were traveling from Seattle to Portland on [XXX] in my 2022 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk with the cruise control set at around 75 mph. Suddenly the emergency collision braking system applied and all of the lights on my vehicle lit up. While the braking system was being applied the cruise control was simultaneously applying gas resulting in the vehicle RPM redlining on multiple occasions. Fortunately, the weather was good, traffic was light, and I was able to maintain control of the vehicle to pull over once a vehicle in the slow lane passed. When stopped the engine light was on, along with an alarm for loss of electronic stability control (ESC), and an alarm for brake service. After clearing the ESC alarm by restarting my vehicle multiple times as indicated in the owner's manual I tried to operate the vehicle. However, the vehicle would not move properly in to drive (noise and felt like the brake was applied). We then decided to contact Jeep roadside assistance for an emergency tow covered by the warranty. We towed the vehicle to the nearest Jeep dealership which was closed for the weekend. On Monday, the dealership informed us that the power transfer unit (PTU) had failed and would need to be replaced. Regarding additional mechanical damage, a determination could not be made until the PTU was replaced. On Tuesday, the dealership advised that the PTU was on an engineering hold until March 20th as the part was now being produced by a new vendor. At this time it appears my vehicle will be inoperable for more than a month until the part is released from the engineering hold. I am concerned that PTU failure is a serious safety defect similar to what has occurred in past model years of the Jeep Cherokee. On Sunday evening (4/16/2023) we noticed a very scary noise coming from our 2022 Jeep Cherokee while we were on the freeway. No warning lights were on in the vehicle. Thankfully we were close to home when we noticed the noise and were able to immediately get off the 110 freeway. We decided not to drive the car and had it towed on Tuesday morning to the nearest Chrysler Dealership, Bravo CDJR of Alhambra. Today we received confirmation from the dealership that the PTU casing is cracked, leaking fluid and metal shavings were found. Dealer has recommended new PTU and PTU fluid. But they don't know when they'll be able to find the part for our vehicle since it is so new. I couldn't find a recall of this part for 2022 Jeep Cherokees online so I thought we should report it in case this is a faulty part. Thankfully on one was hurt in this case but it was a very scary situation.

Traveling in heavy morning traffic in inside lane at approximately 25mph, engine suddenly lost power with simultaneous -??Shift to Park-?? error message and brief flash of amber warning light on instrument panel. Vehicle would not accelerate when gas pedal pressed, engine only revved. Driver (myself) had to slam on brakes and quickly put car in P then back to D in order to get car to accelerate forward, narrowly avoiding multi-car collision from behind. Car is brand new -??22 (owned only 6 days) with less than 600 miles total. Vehicle will be dropped off at dealership 9/11/22 for diagnostics.
