Commander 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 112,000 miles

The check engine light comes on and when you take it to get the code you get a generic code that few shops can interpret. Once you get on the internet you find that the codes are for the shift bezel sensor inside the drive shift casing between the seats.

The issue stops you from putting the vehicle in gear. You put it into drive and the transmission does not engage. You take it out of gear then put it back in gear and it works.

I called the dealership and they said the part would be $350 plus about the same in labor. I was able to find this issue all over the internet for the Commander so it appears to be a very common problem. Several people have taken their vehicles in for service and still continue to have the issue.

Commander Limited 4.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 62,000 miles

won't go into gear in morning, then shifts hard into gear

I have had this POS back and forth to the dealership 6 times within the first year of owning it. Each time they tell me it is fixed and with in 24 hours I is back. Their solution is for me to trade it in and purchase a different car. Sounds great but they won't give me what I owe on the jeep they want to give me $5000. Less tan they sold it to me and put me into something else with higher payments. I contacted Chrysler and they said they would have the dealer fix it but after 6 times I don't have much faith in Simi Valley jeep, which is 45 minutes away each time I ave to bring it there. This my first and last jeep.
