Engine stalled at stop signs, Daughter was driving the vehicle and engine stalled at an intersection. Not able to restart it. Vehicle was pushed to the side. I went to assist her and after many tries the engine restarted, I started to drive and the engine will stall as n DC shutdown at all stop signs/ traffic lights. I managed to drive it to the Jeep dealer shifting into neutral and pressing the gas to keep the engine running. No engine lights were present, temperature was normal and vehicle had 1/4 tank of gas. After a 5 days in the the dealer, they indicated that there is nothing wrong with the vehicle, no codes.

The contact owned a 2010 Jeep Commander. The contact stated while his wife was parked at the supermarket his wife attempted to start the vehicle twice with no avail. The third time she attempted she stepped out the vehicle after she smelled abnormal fumes and someone alerted her that there were flames coming from under the vehicle. The fire was located on the front passenger side where the engine was located. The fire department was called and extinguished the flames. There were no injuries. The vehicle was towed to a lot without being diagnosed as totaled. The dealer was not notified of the failure, and the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000

Timing chain broke on motor causing catastrophic damage to the V8 hemi. Recalls on other vehicles with this motor but Chrysler says not enough people have complained to cause recall on Jeep. Stupid answer. Problem is not the vehicle motor is in its the motor. Jeep was still financed so had to pay out of pocket for a new motor while still paying for the Jeep.

" takata recall" I am the original owner of a 2010 Jeep Commander. Unfortunately, this past week the timing chain broke and left me stranded on the side of the road. Thank goodness it was not during rush hour. There was no warning and could have caused an accident. Let me start by stating that this Jeep has been meticulously cared for from day 1 and every recommended service and oil change has been done on time. This is our family car and not an off road toy. I drove my Jeep with respect and care. So, how and why did the timing chain break and destroy the engine" I called 3 other local Jeep dealerships asking this question and the response was the same with each Chrysler mechanic 'never heard of this on the Jeep Commander' after doing some research online, I did find several chat boards and an article in hot rod magazine talking about the 5.7L hemi timing chain breaking in challengers, chargers and 300's. eventually, there was a recall to address the issue. According to several sources, my Commander has the same engine from the same time period the recall occurred. So why are Jeep's not included" Chrysler knows this is an issue and have chose not to address it. This could have been bad, had my vehicle stalled out the way it did on the highway in rush hour.

With no warning, (no noise from engine) traveling about 25mph engine light flash on, lost all engine power, became hard to steer, was able to safely pull the vehicle out of the road. Later learned that the timing chain broke. I also learned that Chrysler corporation recalled this engine 5.7 hemi in other products, but not the Jeep. This is a time bomb

The Jeep will stall out while decelerating every few months for the last couple of years. Most of the time it has been while approaching an intersection from speeds of 30-45 mph, so I have learned to pop the transmission into neutral to restart the car while in motion. This is horribly scary and dangerous since I obviously cannot steer during the process, and have, at least four times, been making a left-hand turn across traffic. I have taken my car into the dealership numerous times, but they don't even log me in because they say that since I have no illuminated indicator light, they will not be able to pinpoint the problem. This is so dangerous that I would get rid of the car, except that I cannot replace it with anything comparable. I love my Jeep and just want it to not try to kill me.

This is my VIN, but it's not showing up on your system: [xxx] 2010 Jeep Commander, 6 cylinder, AWD. Engine dies without warning, after stopping at a stoplight, or after sitting with the foot on brake, such as while waiting to make a turn left or right. (as of yet, it has just not died while driving. It always happens after stopping.) this is my daughter's car, and the dealer is unable to pinpoint problem. Sometimes the car just dies while sitting at a light; other times, after sitting in a braking situation, and accelerating from a stopped position to make a turn, it dies. Very dangerous, especially if pulling out in front of or across moving traffic. It appears this is a recurring problem with Jeep and Dodge/Chrysler products, based on what I've read on-line. Vehicle idles poorly and 4 wheel drive transfer case motor does not work after dealership performed N23 recall work. This is a vehicle with less than 40,000 miles on it.

The car drove fine pulled it in the garage. Got up Thursday morning to go to work the car turned on and started shaking and I turned it of tried once more it would not turn on at all. So then I changed the crank sensor the cam sensor got a new battery put new spark plugs the truck still would not start. Had a garage look at it they said it was the intake manifold so they therefore told me to take it to Jeep because it was covered under warranty. I took it to Jeep and the told me this would not stop my car from running, they have had my car for a week and no diagnosis. This car is only three years old but Jeep customer service says to me you bought it used so you don't know what was done to the car. So I say to her your qualified mechanics you have working at the dealers cant do the job. What great customer service Jeep has. And the dealer is suppose to be getting in contact with Jeep tech's in corporate to try and figure out what the problem is. Still no car 6/01/15.

I just purchased a used 2010 Jeep Commander limited with 5.7 hemi from philpot motors and brought it home June 25th, 2012. On Friday, June 29th on my way home the engine completely shut off twice within 10 minutes. Both times it was as I was coming to a complete stop. I had to put it in park and turn the key and it started right back up like nothing was wrong. Philpot had it brought to an authorized Jeep dealer (allen samuels) where it sat for 2 weeks and they couldn't figure it out or reproduce the problem. Philpot suggested they change the tipm (power module) and re-flash the memory which they did. I got it back and drove it for about a month and once again it happened at a stop sign when my wife was driving it. The engine stopped completely and she had to put it in park and restart it. It just dies with no warning at complete random times when coming to a complete stop. I was disgusted and so philpot took it once again and sent it to allen samuels. They had it for another 2 weeks and still could not replicate the problem nor find one. They even contacted Chrysler engineers and they couldn't offer any advice. I just got it back the other day because they couldn't figure it out. I even contacted Chrysler group myself after the first occurrence and the girl was rude to me on the phone. She couldn't or wouldn't help me find a solution to the problem because I wasn't the authorized service center. She said the authorized mechanic could only contact their techs, not a consumer. I can't believe that Chrysler engineers and authorized service people cannot find or replicate a problem that's happened three times now. I just wanted my Jeep fixed but I guess Chrysler doesn't have the knowledge or know how to pinpoint what is causing this dangerous problem.

The manufacturer was notified and the contact was awaiting a reply. The failure mileage was 24,000.
