This happened on a busy highway. Car started jerking, stalling, and would not accelerate.

So this among other issues start late last year with our 2008 Compass. Was sitting at stop light and the vehicle just stalled out. Jeep started right up and was fine the rest of the day. My wife drives it more then I do and she says it stutters quite frequently and often tries to stall out.
Most recently, it stalled out dropping the kids off in the drop off line. This time it took 1-2 minutes to re start. No engine light, no warning, nothing.
Took it to a Jeep Dealership that day for them to take it a look at it. But of course like many consumers on here and other sites, they cannot find the issue. They drove my Jeep frequently for 2 days and still they cannot figure the problem. So like many others, we are stuck with a vehicle that has issues that do not show themselves.
I have sent this issue to my local TV Station to may be help investigate why there is no recall for this issue as its a safety concern. Clearly this is an issue as there are a lot of the same complaints. What will it take for someone to get hurt or die before they send out a recall? So we are forced to look into a new vehicle (Not a Jeep Compass) because we don't feel safe driving this vehicle anymore. It should not be that way.
Just figured I would share my experience along with others. Word of advice, believe the ratings for Jeep Compass and stay clear of purchasing them. -JB-

I have a 2008 Jeep Compass. It hesitates and wants to stall when I come to a complete stop. Took it to dealer and said that it was normal on these cars. It is very annoying! Any solutions?

So many problems, so little cash to fix them all. I hope everyone considering buying a Jeep Compass finds this website and re-thinks their purchase, I wish I had.
Was driving along just fine one second, then all of a sudden pulling into a garage to have my winter tires changed over the car stalled 4 times in a row. It made me look like I didn't know how to drive a manual (very embarrassing!). I honestly thought it was me but while pulling out of the garage it stalled 2 more times. Good thing there was a bit of a hill I could coast down in neutral just to get out of the way. Finally got the car started so headed off home down the highway only to stall again. Pulled off the road just 5 minutes from my dealership. Chanced flooring the accelerator to get me to the dealership, somehow managed to make it without stalling.
Dealership did their tests and decided a computer needed to be reset, they did that and said I was good to go and that I'd need to drive for approximately 40km for the computer to update...didn't make it 40 feet without stalling again. Dealership took car back in and gave me the bad news...the PCM computer needed to be replaced to the tune of $800.
With such low mileage on the car why on earth would that need to be replaced so soon. Did my online research to make sure the dealership wasn't taking me for a ride and apparently this is a common issue with the Jeep Compass. Great!!! The dealership had me over a barrel because I couldn't drive my car without getting it fixed. The only good thing was that my car dealer gave me a brand new Jeep Wrangler loner for the weekend while they fixed my beast - they're lucky I didn't keep it.

Me, my wife, grandson and daughter were exiting a freeway and almost got killed by a semi truck, due to the fact that 2008 Jeep Compass randomly stalling, and stopping. I've never been through such a terrifying experience. The vehicle had completely broke down in front of a Budget Car Rental in Vista, CA. Being genuinely terrified for my family life, I had no choice but to rent a car for about a week until I could find out a solution.
I decided to personally call the main branch of Jeep and told them my story. Not to receive anything, but to consider someones life. Every other year that Jeeps has made has been recalled, besides two which includes the 2008 Jeep Compass. The 2014 Jeep Compass is going through a recalled, due to many thing such as "stalling and stop" which is what I experienced in my 2008 Jeep Compass.
Neither Jeep dealership in Carlsbad, CA nor the main Branch of Jeep Compass could give me a detract answer instead they wanted me to pay for my car to be towed to the dealership. With myself being mechanic, familiar told them it may be the "electronic throttle sensor control" can I get an estimate before paying towing fees? They would not give me an answer.
I truly don't understand the difficultly it has been to get my car fixed or my problem solved. Not even a week before I had it in for Smog, failed and paid for each repair to be fixed for it can pass Smog, which it did at the end. All I'm asking if is for Jeep can gather all the facts about recalls. It can save someones life. I'm not asking for anything, but all I know is that my son could have been mourning is Father, Mother, Sister & Grandson, because of the issue Jeep vehicle carry.
*Photos Attached: Show's electronic throttle sensor control gears warn down, not able to rotate, which means won't allow air into the engine when you press the accelerator.

Dies while driving, sometimes after adding fuel. It is definitely a safety issue. I don't want to trade the vehicle in. It's paid for. I like it but I want it to be reliable.

My 2008 Jeep Compass stalls at red lights and hesitates to go. Took car to Jeep once and they could not find issue. It didn't happen while there of course. Had many tune ups and such done. Cannot find a solution. This is my daughters car she drives at college. Need a help with a solution.

It just jerks and it is like the throttle gets stuck, almost hit the person in front of me. The second time was going down highway and there was cars stopping in front of me. I almost didn't stop, brakes were not slowing me down much, I put it in neutral and had to go on side of cars. Now it jerks and starts to die, no code. I'm afraid that someone is going to get killed. I got it used, no warranty, and I don't have money to get a new car.
