After hearing a noise from the engine I took my Compass to a trusted mechanic thinking it just needed a tune up. The mechanic advised me that the noise may be from the transmission, which is a cvt transmission. he had done some research, and although many people reported complaints, a simple solution wasn't reported. I took my Compass for a 2nd opinion and was told again that it may be the transmission. I took my Compass to a licensed transmission specialist and the outcome was that the transmission was "falling apart". Their recommendation was to replace the transmission. They also mentioned to me that although the CVT Transmission is a very difficult transmission with problems, and that Nissan was honoring and extended warranty that was good for 120000 milles, Jeep was sticking to their guns on their warranty for 100000 miles. I am the sole owner of my Compass, which I bought off the show room floor, and maintained all maintenance on it. There is absolutely no reason for this transmission to have "fallen apart", but it did. And $4000 in repairs and close to $250 in car rental, Jeep won't even consider recalling the faulty transmission. Shame on the Chrysler/Jeep companies!!!
