It acts as though it is shifting gears but it isn't, then within 5 miles it dies. We have replaced plugs, wires, battery, all kinds of sensors, the computers and still it will not go 10 miles before shutdown. Then I have to wait 15 minutes, before it will start back up to even go down the road. I live 30 miles from a dealership to even have it put on the computer. It would take me all day to drive it to get there just to hopefully find out what is wrong. I can't afford to keep trying this part and that part just to even try to get to work. When it is below 65 degrees outside then I can drive it upto 20 miles, but that is even taking a chance in getting stranded.

This vehicle has experienced repeated and unexplained failures of the cranking sensor (six at this time in a two-year period), causing the loss of engine without warning. This has occurred while the vehicle was idling and also at road speed, increasing the possibility of a severe accident. From various online searches it appears that thousands of these unexplained failures are occurring to other Jeep vehicles. The cause for the failures has yet to be determined.

My son was driving my 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo at 30 miles/hour when the truck suddenly accelerated with loss of all brake power causing him to drive up onto a parked car which caused the Jeep to overturn onto the driver's side. Luckily for him, he sustained only a small cut from the driver's side window breaking on impact and was cleared medically when he was taken to the hospital via ambulance. A police car happened to be following him and witnessed this incident. When the officer ran to the Jeep after the accident and helped my son climb out of the passenger side, he made my son turn off the Jeep because the engine was still revving and sounded like it was racing although my son was not pressing the gas petal (he was standing on the seat).
