The consumer experienced a hood latch problem. Driving down hwy 64 at 65 mph when hood flew open. Driver was able to pull vehicle to side of road. Diamlerchrysler investigator came out and said latches had corroded due to owner lack of maintenence. Maintenence manual has a small note in the middle of the manual regarding lubrication of the latches, but this task is not part of scheduled maintenence tasks nor does manual describe what to use to lubricate latches. Also owner purchased vehicle used in January 2001. Previous owner was in NJ or md. Entire hood and primary and secondary latches had to be replaced. Front fender had minor damage. Cat 10/28/03

I was traveling on the hwy at 70-73 mph. When hood lifted and completely blinded me. I have been told by people that a safety latch should have stopped the hood from lifting the way it did.
