Bought this vehicle for transportation to work and have not been able to drive it due to safety issues as the timing belt has apparent issues that make the main computer read it wrong from what I am understanding. The vehicle wants to shut off at a red light or stop sign, then kicks back into gear. It seems to drive better on a main stretch, yet falters at slowing to a stop. It is at the manufacture now and has recalls, yet this was not on the list of repairs. However, I believe it is an issue that should be addressed without me having to pay a service bill for the amount they are wanting to charge me for repairs. I feel this is a manufacture defect that should be fixed. They mentioned the timing belt and crank shaft. Im no mechanic, however, these issues could cause me to loose control of this vehicle and should be corrected. I feel it is the manufacturers obligation to safety to help me to have the issues corrected. I had to have someone else drive it to the shop for me with me as passenger. Very scary ride.

This vehicle is a safety hazard!!! it just dies at any speed. My daughter and her newborn almost went off the road at highway speeds twice now. Just about everything has been changed and the problem is still there. Why is nothing being done to rectify this problem"??? just go to any Jeep forum and you will find a multitude of people pouring their hard earned money into this same problem and still no fix. What does it take to to get all of these potential killer SUV's fixed??? a certain amount of deaths????????????"

Daughter has driven vehicle multiple times and car has constantly turned off in the middle of traffic on the highway and neighborhood streets. After multiple times, the vehicle was towed into the Chrysler dealership on June 7th with concerns that the vehicle was stalling and engine turning off. Upon the inspection of the vehicle on June 11th your service technician stated that the vehicle would need its brakes & rotors replaced in addition to the vehicle needing a new engine coil to repair the constant problem of the vehicle cutting off. Paid for the ignition coil repair, vehicle still turned off. Paid for new fuel pump vehicle still turned off. Not dealership is proclaiming PCM board needs O be replaced. I hope that Jeep considers the danger that my child was place because of engine failure for my 97 Cherokee.

As with many other posts, the vehicle just shut down while driving on the parkway. Pulled off the road put the car in park restarted, waited a minute drove another 20 miles home, no problem. This has happened before in the driveway, or just leaving the house but never on the road. Have replaced ignition switch, both O2 sensors distributor cap, rotor and wires. Fuel pressure is good. Don't expect a fix from Chrysler, there are many posts here and online with no fixes. Just thought I'd add my experience to the mix. Time for a new car!

Car stalls without warning while driving. Happens at any speed, from 70 on the highway to 5 mph on our road. No warning. Internet search indicated many Jeep owners with same safety issue and no permanent fixes. Have taken to independent auto mechanic and have replaced ignition components (ignition coil, plugs, wiring, distributor cap and rotor and crank sensors) with no results to correct issue. This is very serious and dangerous condition that needs to be addressed by manufacturer.
