The Cherokee stalled completely, dead stop in the passing lane on a interstate. Service bulletins are listed on your sight about this problem. We are lucky, we got off the road. If this equipment failure was a known problem as early as 1999, we wonder how many people have died as a result of the failure.

I was driving North on rt. 684 with my gas gauge reading was 1/4 full. Vehicle stalled in the third lane of the highway. I managed to pull over and avoid oncoming traffic. One hour later, a state trooper picked me up and drove me to a service station. He told me that my vehicle may have a faulty gas guage as he has picked up other drivers of Jeep Grand Cherokee that have had the same thing happen to them. He said he thought that certain years of the vehicle had been recalled. He turned out to be right. Once the vehicle was refueled, I had no problems starting up and driving home. The next week I took the Jeep into pamby motors in ridgefield ct and they replaced under warranty the defective part. I was fortunate that the incident occurred when I was alone and not with my family or at a time when the traffic volume would have made it more difficult to avoid traffic. I would like to hear back from Chrysler and the NHTSA about this problem, whether it is widespread and what Chrysler intends to do about it.
