1998 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE CUTS OUT INTERMITTENTLY. THIS STARTED 3 WEEKS AGO. HAVE HAD MY INDEPENDENT MAINTENANCE SHOP DO A TUNEUP AND HAS NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM. NO CODES SHOW UP WHEN DOING HIS CHECKS AND THERE IS NO ENGINE WARNING LIGHTS. READ ON YOUR SITE OF SEVERAL ISSUES WITH THE JEEP DOING THIS AND NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW THE PROBLEM AND JEEP DOES NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THERE IS A PROBLEM. THIS COULD BE DANGEROUS ON HIGHWAYS WHEN DRIVING.

THE PROBLEM SEEMS MORE PREDOMINATE AFTER THE CAR HAS RAN AWHILE THEN SITS AND COOLS DOWN. SO FAR THE ENGINE WILL RESTART AFTER I PULL OVER. THIS CUTTING OUT HAPPENS WHEN ACCELERATING AND SLOWING TO A STOP. ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE HELPFUL. THANKS

What happens when this occurs is that the computer module is supposed to intelligently analyze the way the engine system runs and adjust accordingly to make it more efficient. However, Chrysler screwed up and coded a glitch into the computer to do the exact opposite: it learns to start messing up the way your perfectly good engine runs. SO, the solution is to disconnect the the wire harnesses from the module and plug them right back in. It is located at the back left of the engine bay. You'll see 3 plugs that go into a box, held in by clips. Take all three out when the car is stalling/stopping, plug them back in, and start it. It will run like when you bought it. I know, I have done it for 3 years now after it got really bad, also replacing the computer recently because it only works for x years before it goes out, and I've never had a problem since. When you start it back up, there will be a hesitation, a sputter/choke, then vroom as it purrs sweetly. It took me a long time to figure this out: no mechanic ever did. GOOD LUCK!!
