The fuel level sensor inside the fuel tank is faulty and frequently shorts out causing the fuel level to read zero until a bump in the road causes the sensor to start operating again. This intermittent electrical condition may cause a total electrical failure with the sensor. This type failure may cause an electrical fire with the sensor and ignite the fuel in the tank. The sensor needs to be recalled and the sensor replaced.

This is a complaint regarding Chrysler recall campaign N45 in connection with a safety issue related to the fuel tank in Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles. Chrysler has communicated with me twice since July 2013 indicating that my 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee is subject to a safety recall. The most recent communication is an official safety recall notice. The Chrysler dealer has no information about this recall and therefore will not schedule any remedial action to comply with the recall notice. The Chrysler group recall assistance center places the blame on NHTSA holding up approval on a problem mitigation plan. No date for resolution could be provided. My complaint is that Chrysler has taken an inordinate and unreasonable amount of time to provide a mitigation plan for a problem that they characterize as "sincerely concerned about your safety". Chrysler and NHTSA came to an arrangement in June 2013 that a recall was required. It is unacceptable that over 8 month later, there is still no resolution. Please advise.

The Jeep stalls for no reason. Just stops running. It was repaired three times before I acquired it. I have done the same repairs twice to no avail. I was told there was a recall and was also told I'd be notified but have not to date. I just replaced the computer brain and the coil yet again.

My nephew died in a fire after he was impacted from the rear while avoiding debris/people in the highway. www.wggb.com/2013/11/11/state-police-say-they-have-truck-linked-to-I-91-deadly-crash-investigation/..updated 02-04-14 the Jeep was traveling slightly faster when it swerved suddenly into the path of the tractor trailer to avoid debris in the road. The Jeep's left rear impacted the tractor trailer's front (right front?); the Jeep spun 180 degrees, impacted the opened lift gate of a pick-up truck stopped on the breakdown lane, bounced off and impacted the guardrail. It appears all three impacts were to the rear or left rear of the Jeep. It appears the Jeep's driver was on fire before he was ejected from the Jeep. Updated 2/12/14
