While making a left hand turn in heavy traffic Jeep stalled almost causing accident. This happened at 38,000 miles and continues at 100540 miles, if less than half a tank of fuel it will stall and also the dash cluster will read incorrectly. This failure could cause someone to be injured or death as it happens at ransom. User reports that keeping fuel tank full cuts down on the shutoffs to one or two a year.

It has happened a few times the lever in the gas tank that lets the gas gauge know how much gas is in it sticks when it says a quarter tank it is actually completely empty. This has left myself and my two babies left to walk and get pushed to a gas station. The other complaint is that the transmission makes a really load whining noise when overdrive is off.

While driving, the fuel gauge gave the wrong reading, which caused the vehicle to run out of gas. The fuel gauge read the vehicle had a half of tank of gas.

Gas gauge malfunctions continuously. Presumably fuel sending unit failed after about 2 years. Gauge continuously bounces from "full" to "empty" with the warning beeper sounding each time it reaches the empty mark. Gauge is completely unreliable and is of no value in determining how much gas actually remains.

Fuel sending unit failed. As a result: The check engine light will not go off, therefore I can not pass emissions test in my state. I am also constantly running out of gas. The sending unit is necessary for correct gauge readings. This has happened at the worst time for me as a single mother suffering from job losses in the state of goergia. The estimates to repair the fuel system has averaged $700 dollars I am also filing a complaint about the transmission that slips too. The transmission will not go into 2nd or 3rd gear with out a lot of extra effort. There are times I have to take back roads and access roads just because I was nearly hit several times trying to access the express way. SUV's are horrendous in gas mileage but a SUV with a slipping transmission is burning even more gas! I am still trying to pay for the car and can not afford the repairs. I wish I would have bought an import. I have met quite a few Jeep owners who have experienced the same problems.

Fuel gauge - vehicle runs out of fuel at 1/4 tank marker.
- Goose Creek, SC, USA
Vehicle cannot read the gas level correctly and there is a cross flow problem with the vehicle. Contacted dealer.. consumer stated the fuel tank mounted fuel level sending unit accuracy degraded over time, indicating that there is more fuel in reserve than there actually is.
- Klingerstown, PA, USA
Engine check light stays illuminated while driving. Dealer has reset vehicle twice and light has illuminated again. Consumer adds that failure codes were transmission 3rd gear and fuel sending unit.

While driving on interstate noticed loss of power, vehicle appeared as it was going to stall. Pulled over to the side of the road, gave it gas, and vehicle just died. Put in gas, drove it to the service station, and added more gasoline. It was reading a full tank, but in reality, it was empty. Contacted the dealer.
