The fuel gauge will randomly go from the correct reading to empty along with the chime telling the driver to stop for refueling soon. I now see that I am not the only one going through this. Will call the dealer on Monday. Clh.

The gas gauge on my Jeep does not accurately reflect the amount of gas left. The tank may report there is gas remaining when empty or that there is no gas when full. The gauge may start and stop working several times while driving in a single trip, or never accurately report the gas level at all.

When I bough my vehicle 2 years ago the gas gauge needle would go to empty, the bell would ring, then go back to full a few times. Dealer said since I bought the car used, and it wasn't a safety issue, they would not cover it in the 30 day warranty. Now the needle is only correnct when it is full. Also, all 4 tires seem to lose air quickly. Brought it to the dealer twice. First time couldn't find a problem, second time they replaced the stems. Now still have the problem. Pretty much sick of wasting my time bringing it somewhere and they can't figure out the problem.

The gas gauge indicator only worked when the gas tank was full.

1. fuel injector failed causing the engine to misfire and operate on only 5 out of 6 cylinders. 2. in the same cylinder (#6) rod broke, causing engine to blow and need replacement at only 42,000 miles. 3. power steering pump almost fell off the vehicle. (most likely due to improper installation after engine rebuild). 4. brakes constantly squeak or make grinding noise when pressure is applied. When temperatures are below 50 degrees, a high pitched whinning noise is heard from underneath the vehicle. Can only be heard when traveling under 45 mph - due to road noise masking the sound. (multiple dealers have not been able to determine what the problem is nor be able to fix it, so constantly whines). 5. fuel gauge fluctuates when 3/4 full (drops to empty and fuel light turns on, then returns to normal reading. Will continue to do this until tank is 1/4 full). Told this is a problem with the fuel sensor. 6. transmission is occasionally rough (jerky shifting between 1st and 2nd gears).

The gas gauge malfunctions. (often stops and drops to empty, causes low fuel light to signal-until the gauge returns to it's proper reading, this occurs when the tank is about three quarters full, and will read empty when the tank is full) scc

The fuel level sending unit in this 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee loredo is extremely unreliable and un-safe. There was a recall on this issue in the prior model year for this vehicle. If one was to contact Jeep dealerships for replacement parts for the level sending unit, you in turn will receive the identical parts that were installed in the recalled 1997 model year. This would mean the 1997 card body, card body wiper, float arm retainer and the float arm assembly part numbers were reinstalled in the 1998 fuel moduals. Revision levels on these engineered parts are doughtfull. The problem with this vehicle is you can fill the tank in full position (23 gal -two clicks) start it up and it may read empty, it may read half full or it may read full at any given moment. Occasionaly when you shut the rear hatch door on this vehicle the vibration may case the fuel level unit to react inside the tank/module in a abnormal manner. I believe this is an unsafe and has caused this owner to run out of gas once on highway I95 in NY and once on a back road. Chrysler customer support has been contacted and documented the issue on this vehicle but to no avail.
