Grand Cherokee Limited 5.9L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 140,000 miles

It has happened twice in the last 2 weeks. Seems to be when I go over a small bump, not everytime. Very violent shaking of the car. I let off the gas and it settles down

Driving the Jeep on the freeway at a speed of 65 mph late evening the front end starting to wobble severely almost causing the Jeep to go out of control. I had to slow down and stop on side of freeway to see what the problem was. I visually could not see anything wrong with the tires and everything underneath looked all together. But I am not a mechanic. I then got back in the Jeep and continued, it happened again at a speed of 50 mph. I slowed down and it stopped. I exited the freeway and took the side streets home going no more than 20 mph. it did not happen again. I took the Jeep into the shop the next week when I had time and they really could not see any problem but said that one of the rods upfront might be a little warn so they replaced it. No more problems. Note. I do not use this Vehicle but maybe on a few thousand miles a year.

Driving on the freeway 60 mph the steering started to shake severely causing me to go onto the shoulder of the freeway during rush hour. Upon slowing down it stopped. I checked the tires and underneath... no visual problems. I got back in and drove another 2 miles at 50 mph, the same thing. I exited the freeway and drove side streets home at 20 mph... no problems. I took it into the mechanic, they could not find any problems, and told me to have Jeep look at it.

I was pulling a pair of Jet skies and slowing down to turn on to another street and the front end started wobbling almost to have cause me to go off the side of the road. I pulled the Jeep off the road the rest of the way and a few friends and I looked at the tires and underneath, but could not find any problems. The rest of the trip it rode fine but I kept the speed right at 40 mph.

We did everything we could to fix it. Everybody said change the rotors, track bar, alignment. They all helped it, but it was never truly fixed.

I bought this Jeep new, three months ago it started the death wobble, if you own a Jeep you will never know that it has this dreaded disease until the day it happens. It immediately made me think I had blown both front tires. I have driven a couple of million miles and never had anything like this ever happen. This is a terrifying front end problem, it shakes so violently that you have to grip the steering wheel until you are white knuckled just to keep in on the road. It not only wobbles sideways but it jumps up and down.

I would never recommend this SUV or Jeep product again to a living soul even if I knew that they were physically and mentally the strongest person on earth. The average woman would die from heart failure. I cannot believe that Chrysler has never recalled any of these units or that the public has allowed them to keep putting them on the road. When I took mine to the garage there was a newer model Jeep Wrangler there for the same problem. So far as the cost is concerned I have no idea how much it will continue to cost me, this is now the second time to the garage in three months...this time it was $436.00. Everytime I get behind the wheel and hit the highway I pray that the Lord will get me back in one piece as I am not sure that the Jeep will.

I am no longer a proud Jeep owner. I saw a video of what it actually looks like when at about 62 mph it decides to become a rock and roller. If you ever buy a Jeep please take the time to see a shrink first because after one death wobble you will need to keep him on your payroll.
