On my way to a Road trip to Idaho from Portland Oregon. My Daughter and I were on our way to go help out a friend in need. It took me a little bit to notice there was something very wrong with my vehicle. I was getting Lousy gas mileage which was very odd. I also felt a rumble in my seat and a slight shaking in the steering wheel. I pulled off of the Interstate to check my car out to see WTH was going on. Yes, I am a woman and a gear head, I know a few things about cars. I had my toolbox in the back and a couple of gallons of water, I used the water to cool the hubs and discs so that I could have a look around. My Disc was Screaming Hot and it was very clear that my Caliper had seized. This was the first time it happened and I was not sure how to fix it and I was too far away from home to use my towing from AAA . I called my husband and he told me to turn around and come home. He did not think I knew what I was talking about when I told him the caliper was seized so I drove home on it stopping as often as possible to let the disc and hub cool down. It cost me 150.00 to drive approximately 225 miles. Talk about ridiculous. We replaced the discs, hubs and brakes on both rears and everything was fine for about a year. I have had the problem several times since and would elaborate here but instead I am going to do as I was instructed and post another complaint. I could not recall how much it cost us the first time but I think it was in the area of 200.00 plus the 150.00 of wasted fuel. After researching the net I have found that this is a Persistent Problem for Jeeps! I am going to research some more because I am having the same problem with three of my Calipers at this time and need this fixed ASAP!!!
