Both front brake calipers and left rear caliper seized causing overheating to the entire braking system. It also caused rotor damage, disc damage and brake pad damage. This is not the first time this has happened. I am not sure if it happens when I am driving or stationary. I have had to replace my pads once a yea since I have owned the vehicle and I have replaced the hubs discs and rotaterstwice. I am preparing to replace all of these components for the third time and will also replace the rubber brake lines. I have been researching this vehicle and have come to the conclusion that there is a severe problem with the braking system. In my opinion it is only a matter of time before someone loses their life from this defect.

The contact owns a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving approximately 40 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and traveled to the floorboard without warning. The vehicle was coasted to the side of the road and towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 126,000.

Fuel/propulsion: The vehicle will run after starting for 5-8 minutes then the RPM's drop to 300 and acts like its going to stall; then.the car begins bucking, jerking, and revving up. There are loud clunks from the engine compartments. I have replaced the cam & crankshaft sensors, throttle position sensor and no change yet. Next I am going to replace the fuel pump, filter, the fuel line between them. Air bags: The airbag light goes on and off. The only fix I have read about is the clock spring...talk about money pit!! brakes: Yes. Front brakes have locked up and caused issues. Discs and calipers have been replaced. Also, driver's side break light is not functional. The tail lights work, but once the brake is depressed, the right and top lights work, but the driver's light is off. And just for fun...I've had to replace both side mirrors due to internal springs failing as well as both front window regulators and motors. When I went to autozone to get parts, they correct window regulator was under the 2000 model year; 1999 did not fit. We are gonna get rid of this Jeep...Chrysler needs a lesson in taking responsibility. We'll buy a Toyota.

We have owned our 1999 Grand Cherokee since 1999 - its been a great car but every single issue listed on this website has befallen us. Currently @ 149K miles we have no heat on the driver side due to blend door assembly, the airbag light goes off all the time and there is no heat in the drivers side seat. I am shocked that so many people have the exact same issues and that to me says there is truly something wrong. We also took part in a class action suit that covered some of the expenses we had in continually replacing the brakes - especially the rotors which warp with out notice and can do that if you just step on the brakes to hard! even if you have just had them replaced. Cheap parts" I am a die hard Jeep owner but after reading all of these postings I am wondering if my alliance should be elsewhere"

Front left and right calipers seized causing caliper, pad and rotor overheating and brake rotor cracked and failed causing me to scrape a guard rail while attempting to stop. This is the third brake caliper related failure I have had in the last 24 months. The previous 2 resulted in my replacing calipers rotors and pads. Jeep is aware that the calipers are defective and would replace them with an upgraded different type but only while vehicle was under warranty. There are dozens of reports on line at various forums of this exact same problem. I have ordered the upgraded caliper (now that I know about them) and will replace this but Jeep should notify all owners of this known issue so that we do not continue to replace a known bad part with the same known bad parts. As I consider this dangerous a recall would not be out of the question either.
