problem #124

Jun 151999

Grand Cherokee 4WD

  • miles
Rotors have been resurfaced twice, replaced twice and the problem is now back again. Dealer stated problem was due to "mexican steel" and driver error in that I drove with the default overdrive on. He stated I should drive with overdrive off at speeds below 45 mph. Please note the large number of complaints and technical bulletins in your database regarding this equipment failure. Why has there not been a recall. This is an unsafe condition that is inherent in the vehicles parts. Now Chrysler wants me to pay for another set of rotors. I would like to hear from you. Thanks.

problem #118

(reported on)

Grand Cherokee 4WD

We purchased this vehicle form the aforementioned dealer pm 8/24/00. At that time it had 14,376 miles on it. A "carfax.org" revealed that this was a return from lease. There wa S no other information that would indicate the potential for mechanical failure. Nine months and 5515 miles later the peterson service dept diagnosed our vibration issue when applying the brakes as "warped rotors" and we need to replace all 4 of them. At our expense ($430). This the first time in, over 40 years of vehicle ownership, that I have had tis happen so early in the life of a vehicle" I think this should be checked out?? the manufacturer knows something because they will only guarantee their rotors for 12 mo/12K mi."
