The contact owns a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the blender that controlled the vehicle from running too hot or cold failed. The contact stated that the passenger side blower would expel cold air and the driver side blower would expel very little heat. The defroster was also inoperable. The dealer advised the contact that the entire dashboard and steering column would have to be removed in order to make the necessary repairs. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure and current mileage was 160,000.

Visibility:defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower... it was suggested that include the prior description but I'm in question. We have had this 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee in the family for years and the past year the passenger side blows strictly cold air (it has dual air controls) - my nephew owned the Jeep prior to our purchasing it from him this past month. He said this has been this way for a while and not sure what to do. In researching the fix, it seems everyone has the same problem and it was suggested to report it to you in hopes that you can help with the fix as it is a costly one from Jeep ($1000 - $1500)... since everyone has this problem it has to be a Jeep defect. Hopefully you can help us out.

All of the sudden there was no air blowing out of the inside vents, I took it to my mechanic who explained that the blower quit working and the left side heater quit working as well. My mechanic fixed the blower because it was easily accessible and charged me $200 to fix it but not the heater because he explained he will have to remove the whole front dash and will cost a labor a about $500. I contacted the Jeep dealership who explained that services will not be covered under the warranty for this issue. I know a lot of Jeep owners who have had these same problems. I am afraid Chrysler did not equipped the vehicles with high quality blowers and or heaters. A recall on this issue from the manufacturer is needed!

1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited heater doesn't work. No heat on either side whatsoever. 116K miles and from the way the seller is responding to my query about it is that its been that way for a while now. Have heard that possibly the control module(relay) melts as well which is a reason as to why I smell a faint burnt plastic smell when I turn the air on whether it be heater or A/C it smells.

1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited has a safety defect in the ac/heater system. Blending doors mechanism controlling the defogging of the windshield break too easy. Replaced once about a year ago and then it has the same problem again. Too expensive. When it rains almost got into an accident because of the defogging system failure.

The "blower control module" is the electronic component responsible for adjusting the fan speed for the HVAC on vehicles equipped with the automatic climate control. It is a well known problem that these units fail. It has failed on my vehicle. My own independent mechanic has replaced quite a few of them. The wiring harness and plug that supplies power is not heavy duty enough and it overheats and melts and could cause a fire. It can be further exaggerated if the blower collects debris and draws more current. Once it fails the blower will no longer operate. This makes the defroster unavailable, which could create very unsafe driving conditions should the windows fog up. Chrysler has a redesigned unit with a new harness so it is obviously a problem they are already aware of. I'm in the process of having the new parts installed and the old parts will be available. The contact owns a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving 40 mph, the window became fogged. The heat would not activate to defog the window, therefore the contact's visibility was limited. The dealer stated that the failure was caused by the blend doors. The failure mileage was 100,000 and current mileage was 115,000.

Visibility: Defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower dashboard have a loud creaking sound coming from its underside when you turn on your ventilation. There is a creaking from the dash seconds after shutting the engine off, numbers popping-up on your climate control display. Hot air blowing from one side of the dash even when you have the heat turned on. Your ventilation system may have failed, or, may be in the process of failing. Dealer wants 1200 to 1500 for the fix.

Two problems: 1. the blower motor resistor burnt out and the ac/head fan quit working. It was sparking when I managed to disconnect the wire. Luckily, I was stopped and could reach it in time - had I been driving its very possible my vehicle would have burnt up. 2. no heat. Entire last winter I was forced to drive 2 hours per day constantly wiping fog off my windshield. I was told by a 'mechanic' it was a clogged heater core so I had to put up with it because I did not have the money to fix it at the time. Dangerous and cold, but I had no choice. Now I am trying to get my vehicle repaired I start researching and find there are entire web sites devoted solely to these two problems. 1. blower motor resistor shorts out. To properly repair you have to replace the resistor and the dashboard wiring harness... very costly!! $600+ 2. no heat due to bad blend doors. $1200+ 3. both of these appear to affect Jeep 1999-2004 year models how can Jeep continue to knowingly sale automobiles with 1 - a fire and safety hazard with the faulty resistor" 2 - a safety hazard with no heat due to faulty blend doors" google it... both of these are very well known problems with these vehicles and are not isolated incidents. Please look at these two links provided. They just start to scratch the surface of how bad this problem really is. Jeep should be responsible for repairing both of these problems as they are both safety issues and they knew about them prior to the sale, not to mention the cost of repairing these items places an unfair burden on the owner since fair trade would mandate these known and recurring defects should have been disclosed prior to sale.
