Grand Cherokee

  • 60,000 miles
The seat frame on the driver's seat broke, causing the seat to wobble precariously while driving. I had it welded, but it subsequently broke in another place. Based on internet research, I repaired that break with a bolt and nut. Subsequently, the frame broke in another place. I attempted another repair, with poor results. It has now broken again, in a fourth place. The seat frame is made of rather thin steel, not as thick as that of a good cooking pot. The seat has not been abused or misused in any way, and I find by internet research that this is a common problem. My mechanic described the seat frame as being "made from a soup can." This is a very dangerous situation, and I hesitate to replace it with a (quite expensive) used replacement, as I fear it will only break again.

Drivers side seat bracket at base of seat broke, the seat is no longer stable, if involved in an accident the seat and seatbelt combination could prove more dangerous than the accident itself, if the bracket breaks all the way while driving this could cause a major accident!! I am just learning that this is a common problem. This needs a recall, very dangerous!!!

The right fwd seat track mount has broken its welds. The demographics of my family are all normal weight 195 and under and the vehicle is used mainly for on road trips and barely ever travels off road. During a internet search for a replacement seat track that yielded no results and a dealer visit with a quote of 400 dollar fix. I have lost any respect for the manufacturer that seems to cut corners where they can put the general public in danger by the use of their product.

The driver's seat bracket or mount is broken and the seat is set facing slightly toward the left pillar. In investigating this situation we found that bracket failure is a very common occurrence for this model. This is a hazardous condition and warrants a recall due to its frequency. This is my wife's vehicle and she is unsure about when the failure first occurred.

Grand Cherokee 4WD 8-cyl

  • 134,000 miles
While driving my Jeep Grand Cherokee the drivers front seat began to rock. When I got home I checked the seat and found that the metal frame had cracked in three places. I did some temporary repairs which did not last very long. I then did some research and found that many other Jeep owners had the same problem. This problem is a safety hazard, and is a dangerous. Any help you could give me with this problem would be appreciated. I feel that Chrysler should do a recall for this problem.

Grand Cherokee 4WD 8-cyl

  • 60,000 miles
The bracket under the seat snapped in a few different places, it looks like it was bad welding. I found online that many people had the same problem. I have tried to weld it back into place, but it only breaks again and again. It makes my seat very uncomfortable and it used to squeak, but I found a way to fix the squeak on my own. The whole seat moves forward because the back is not attached at all, very unsafe.

This vehicle did much like the previous owner's complaint's with the driver's seat. I had pulled in to a parking space and the seat just collapsed. I'm fortunate that I wasn't driving but trying to park. Why haven't NHTSA entered a recall on this"?" I'm trying to get the seat welded as I can't afford to buy another seat or another vehicle. This is a very dangerous situation that needs to be addressed. As long as I've owned cars I've never experienced any seat just breaking apart like this one did. Someone will get killed if this happens while driving. The frame shouldn't give way like this. It must be failure on the type of steel that is being used on the frames.

The drivers side seat brackets that hold the seat in place have given way. The seat now rocks side to side & front to back. It needs some serious repair. This is not something that should happen due to normal wear and tear, but it did. I hope nothing worse happens to the seat as I try to find some way to repair it. Almost 3,000 people on one website alone have reported having problems with the drivers side seat brackets on Jeep Grand Cherokee. (vlane.com/poll/30/2001-Jeep-grand-Cherokee-has-your-driver-side-front-seat-broken-on-this-Jeep) there really should be a safety recall regarding this faulting design & manufacturing. It is only a matter of time before someone is killed driving at high speed only to hit a bump in the road & have their seat completely break apart from the brackets & end up looking at the ceiling of the vehicle after the seat falls backwards.

Own a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and front drivers seat carriage has broken due to a poor design. Started squeaking and poorly built metal frame will crack and come loose from foundation leaving you looking at the overhead while taking off from a green light. Very dangerous! does someone need to die before Jeep notices this is a factory problem and issue a recall for this potentially life and death issue?

Grand Cherokee

The contact owns a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited. The contact stated that the front driver seat would continuously fail and would move independently while the vehicle was in motion. The brackets for the seat were replaced four times by an independent mechanic who advised the contact that the failure continuously recurred due to the weakness of the metal. The failure mileage was 85,000 and the current mileage was 137,000.

Grand Cherokee 4WD 8-cyl

  • 120,000 miles
I was driving down the road at about 40 mph and my seat started to wobble. I stopped the vehicle and looked at the seat. The seat bracket had broken. There was no known strain on the seat and no accident. I'm still at work so I haven't been able to try and find replacement parts yet. A few months ago a coworker with the same vehicle had his seat break completely and he ended up laying down in the car.
