- the contact stated that while driving the 2001 Jeep Cherokee with 73000 failure mileage at any rate of speed and then applying the brake, the steering wheel shook uncontrollably, and was getting worse, but the vehicle stopped normally. The vehicle had been taken to the dealer seven times for repairs. The most recent time they changed the rotors and calipers, but the failure recurred. Updated 03/19/07.

Pulsating and grabbing brakes when applied. To the point of possible steering loss at higher speeds. First failure at aprox 12000 miles dealer replaced all rotors and front calipers. Stated brakes were under rated. Aproximately 12000 miles later vehicles is still under warranty and has the same problem only more severe. I will be replacing the rotors with an aftermarket brand. (not the defective rotors used by Chrysler). Old rotors will be available for inspection. Chrysler refuses to cover these defective parts under warranty. Vehicle only has currently 28000 miles.

Disc brake rotor failure. Vehicle has 33000 miles. Severe shuddering at the front end occurs when braking at highway speeds due to front rotors having warped. Severe enough to effect control of vehicle, especially if were to occur in emergency or bad weather situation. Shudderring is not as severe at less than highway speeds. Such warping of the rotors is not normal and from the number of other posts there is clearly a manufacturing defect occuring.

Front axle brake rotors warped prematurely, had to cover cost out of pocket (not warranty). Also oil seal on rear axle failed, causing rear brakes to be filled with grease, about to fail prematurely (have not fixed yet, $400 job). Vehicle only has 47000 miles. Extended Chrysler warranty will not cover either.

There is a design defect within the brakes which causes them to pulsate excessively, resulting in severe shuddering of the steering wheel. Notified dealer and the dealer told the consumer that there is a service bulletin on the brake system it required that the calipers, pads and rotors need to replaced because of the engineering of the calipers were faulty. Consumer fells it could lead to loss of control.

The rotors on the front warp and we have them re-surfaced and they end up warped again in a month or two. After contacting the dealer, I was informed of a kit to reduce the pressure exerted on the rotor but they want the customer to pay for the kit. So if they have a kit to correct this problem they know they have a problem.

At 35,350 miles, experiencing a strong vibration when braking at highway speeds. Also hearing excessive squeaking from brakes at low speeds. Front rotors need replacement, but only covered under waranty for 1yr/12000mi. If not replaced, risking further deterioration of braking system, however daimler Chrysler has issued no recall on the system.

Disc brakes surge while stopping. With less than 15000 miles this is not normal and should be repaired at the manufacturers expense. It is obviously the rotor and not just pads that are defective. This is a safety concern.

With 9,000 miles on the vehicle there would be a vibration during application of brakes while driving at any speed. Dealership turned rotors at 12,000 miles which temporarily remedied the problem. With 26,000 miles on vehicle, vibration has started to reoccur when the brakes were activated. Dealership stated that brake rotors/padfs had to be replaced due to warping. Also, dealer required consumer to cover cost of brake pads. Please provide any additional information / documentation.

During normal operation of the vehicle and driving at any speed, and when brake system is activated, a severe vibration starts to occur. Dealership has examined vehicle four times, and has been unable to effectively remedy the problem. Corrective action taken by the dealership is to replace the brake rotors and brake pads and wheel bearings. The vehicle pulls right while driving due to hub and bearing failure. While driving, the rear end makes noise due to bearing and pinion worn out. Grease leaking around both front wheels because of drive shaft failure. Left and right front cv boot were leaking.

Brakes vibrate and do not slow vehicle adequately. When slowing transmission downshifts into low gear and vehicle accelerates and lurches forward. To compensate for this sudden acceleration additional pressure on the brake pedal is required to avoid loosing control. This is unsafe and will cause an accident if not addressed properly.
