I am just concerned about all the recall and buy back news I have been hearing in regards to jeep vehicles lately, being that they are unsafe in relation to the gas tank located in the back of the vehicle which can explode in case of collision. However the recall only goes up to 1999 Grand Cherokee models; I own a 2001 model and the gas tank is located in the same location as the 1999 model, however no recall has been issued. I already had a small rear end hit which dented the gas tank. Anyway, I am just concerned that models 2000 and higher are not being recalled. Any info?

I was driving to work one August morning. It was around 9 o clock. I was waiting at a red light when a teen (driving a 2000 Sentra) hit the back of the car going about 30 MPH. We both got out of our cars. My neck was aching. Suddenly, a fire started! I ran into a McDonalds across the street, while the teen went into the post office. By the time the fire department came, everything from the trunk to the rear axle was burnt, and the flames were leaping onto the teen's Sentra. Once the fire was put out, there was a huge crowd watching the seen, and both cars were totaled. In my Jeep, even the rear seats were burned, and in the teen's Sentra, the grill and engine were singed, and in some parts, even burnt through. I will never buy a car from Jeep ever again!

My 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee( WJ ) has the Highly Exposed Plastic fuel tank between the rear Bumper and the rear Axle ( The Crush Zone ) which is identical to the Recalled 1993 to 1998 ( TJ ) model, But mine was not recalled. My 2001 is in the 1999 to 2004 WJ design which has also had, I believe, 8 people who have Died from Rear End Collisions where the Brittle Highly Exposed Plastic Fuel Tanks have broken open from direct impact to the tank which Burst into Flames Engulfing the Jeep and the vehicle, which is usually under the rear of the jeep.

Also after Contacting Chrysler, I have been given No help, Told Different stories: of how Chrysler is fixing the 93 to 98s with a Hitch, or a plate/Hitch which has No Receiver so not really a hitch, or that the Parts are not available for anyone else who wants to buy them or even to pay Chrysler for the parts and for them to install them at My expense. So we are expected to wait to die or our children to die waiting for them to bring these left out Jeeps into the recall.
