Car shutters when applying brakes. Jeep has know about this problem since the middle of 2002 and even sent out tsb's to it's dealers. The calipers were defective causing the pads to wear uneven thus causing the rotors to warp. Chrysler says your problem not ours, pay to have it fixed.

The contact owns a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the steering wheel, floor, seat, and instrument panel vibrated. There was also a minor pedal pulsation (brake roughness) under light to moderate pedal application. He took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the brake calipers were covered under warranty; however, the rotors and pads would have to be replaced at his own expense. The manufacturer would not provide any assistance. The powertrain was unknown. The failure and current mileages were 44,700.

: the contact stated the plastic blades on the fan fractured and detached from the engine puncturing the radiator. There is a NHTSA campaign id # 06V199000 pertaining to the engine and engine cooling system; fan. The vehicle was not included in the recall due to the VIN. There was also an unnecessary delayed in acceleration. There was a grinding noise and smoking coming from the brakes. The dealership determined the brakes were rubbing against the discs causing friction which caused the brakes to overheat. The caliper was also leaking. The brake calipers, brake shoes and pads were replaced.

: the contact stated while driving at various speeds, the service brakes pulsate causing the steering wheel to vibrate. The dealership turned the rotors at 7,000 miles. On December 3, 2004 at 17,000 miles the rotors and calipers were replaced because the vibration returned. At 28,000 miles the problem returned, but there have been no additional repairs.

Contact states while driving his vehicle about 65 mph, the entire vehicle started shaking because front calipers locked down on the rotors. The front tire becomes so hot that smoke starts coming from the tire. This was the first time the vehicle has had this problem. The vehicle is at the service dealer and there is a new brake kit available for the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated letting the consumer know there was a problem with the brakes.

The consumer states that the brakes 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee vibrate and jerk you all over the road at high speeds above 40 mph. Even at low speeds you can feel the vibration when you apply the brakes. The first problem was at 7,986 miles and the owner had to have the brake calipers and rotors replaced as per instruction. The owner said that the vehicle was under warranty. The second problem is at 19,000 miles on the same vehicle, the brakes are doing the exactly same thing again. The owner has not had the brakes fixed at this point because the Jeep dealership said would call the owner back after they talked to the factory representative. The owner has not talked to any one at Chrysler but customer services and they would not give the consumer any information. The owner feels like the vehicle was not fixed right the first time. There are not any recalls on the vehicle. The owner is waiting on the dealership to call and tell him what to do. The vehicle has been regularly maintained.

Vibration of the steering wheel, floor, seat, instrument panel & fminor pedal pulsation (brake roughess) under light to moderate pedal application. This condition may be casued by thickness variation of the brake rotor system. To correct this problem brakes & calipers must be replaced. I feel that anything having to do with the brakes on a vehicle should be the responsibility of the vehicle manufacture to correct. I consider brakes a life/death situation. There is a technical service bulletin from Jeep # 05-0036-02 rev. B, date 12/16/2002.

2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4WD 4dr taken in because of brake failure. Was told drums had warped and to permanently fix problem would be $800. To temporarily fix it was, $119.99, but the problem could come back. My claim is that there are problems with the vehicles' front brakes and that after as little as 5,000 miles, the steering wheel and front wheels "shake" and that drivers encounter severe vibrations through the steering wheel, floor, seat and pedals when the brakes are applied.

At any speed when brake pedal is depressed consumer feels pulsation and vibration in the steering wheel and front wheels. Dealer replaced rotors and calipers, but problem still recurred.

2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee - I purchased the vehicle new in 2002. The steering wheel shakes and is hard to steer when brakes are applied above 50 mph. Brakes pads and rotors were replaced at approx. 7,000 miles, rotors were resurfaced at 15,000 miles and at 18,000 miles the problem is back again.
