The contact owns a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure was found in the natural vacuum leak detection pump. There was a recall related to failure, under NHTSA campaign id number: 02V032000 (component: Fuel system, gasoline:delivery:hoses, lines/piping, and fittings). The manufacturer was made aware of the issue but advised the contact that the VIN was not included in the recall. The current mileage was 238,465. The approximate failure mileage was 119,000. The vehicle experienced the symptoms of recall 02V032 which caused it to smeel of gas everytime the vehicle was driven, the vehicle could not be repaired immediately because the dealer had no parts available, the consumer has to pay to rent a car while his vehicle was being repaired and is requesting reimbursement for the rental car.
