Two years ago my passenger side heat stop working. When I took it to the dealer, they stated that it was not cover by any warranty and it would cost $1500 to repair. So the put tape over those vents and only had the driver side working. Last may my driver side stop blowing hot air also. Took back to the dealer, guess what it will cost $1200. I'm tried of this, Jeep should have a recall!

I bought my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee used with 51,249 miles I found out after 30 days that my blend door needed to be changed out the dealer where I purchased it was kind enough to split the cost 50% my part $492. Now it has gone out again and you would have thought that it would last more than 2 years what can I do besides trade it in.

In the fall of 2006, the heat in my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee stopped working. I did some online research and this problem was so common that I easily found plenty of people with the exact same problem that were able to self-diagnose the problem using the Jeep's internal computer to output the system faults. Using the same method to enter the azc self-diagnostic mode, the climate control display outputted the system fault codes 52-54-56. Since most of the consumers I've run into with this problem get that exact code, or have had the same problem diagnosed by a Jeep dealership service department, I already know that it will cost anywhere from $1000+ to be repaired, the majority of it being labor as the entire instrument panel assembly has to be removed. To address this problem, daimler-Chrysler released tsb 2400104 - new HVAC sub-assembly replaces blend or recirc door components. Each new sub-assembly consists of several individual components. The new sub-assemblies improve component reliability. It is recommended that the respective sub-assembly be installed if a blend air door(s), a recirculation door, a door link, or a sub-assembly housing requires replacement. These new parts cost less than $200 according to the bulletin, but I find it hard to believe that daimler-Chrysler expects their customers to pick up the tab on a design flaw. Especially a design flaw that is so labor intensive that even though the parts are less than $200, the final bill will be more than $1,000. A job so consuming that it wouldn't be wise to have it serviced by anything but a Jeep service technician. Not to mention some repair shops won't even take on the job due to the time and possible accountability of such a project. To make a vehicle where the heat does not work correctly is unacceptable and most likely dangerous. Not only because of the effects extreme cold can have on a body, but also due to the heat being used for defrosting. It cost $884 to repair.

The contact owns a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving at an unknown speed, the seat frame spontaneously failed and allowed the seat to suddenly retract backwards. The failure increased the risk of a crash. The dealer stated that the entire seat frame needed to be replaced at the cost of over $400. He is in the process of having the seats repaired. Secondly, the power windows worked intermittently. The dealer replaced the window regulators. Thirdly, he noticed that fluid from the heater coil leaked into the front passenger side of the vehicle. The manufacturer would not assume any responsibility for the repair because the vehicle exceeded the warranty. The failure and current mileages were 94,000.

2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Blower controller connector is overheating and melting connector and now not working. Replacement with new connector is possible from dealer with morpar repair kit #05102406aa. However... this does not fix the problem as it will happen again and again. This is due to strain on the blower motor drawing high amps because the common problem with this Jeep is with the ac "blend doors" which was the first problem for me....as with many Jeep Cherokee owners. It costs over $1000 to fix a simple problem with the blend door because the entire dash has to be removed! so, the blend doors are a common problem with an expensive fix, and if you don't fix it, the blower motor and controller will overheat, leaving you with no air control to remove moisture in damp weather. The controller could overheat, possibly cause a fire, or if the controller and blower don't work, you have no way of clearing foggy windows....bad thing! very frustrated as this should be part of a major recall. Why should so many Jeep owners have to pay for a simple, yet expensive fix?

Blend and recirculation door failures in HVAC unit. Failure is extremely common, and costs over $1,000 in repairs.
- West Linn, OR, USA
Air conditioning blower would quit working. Found a Jeep forum on line. Determined the problem was the blower motor resistor wiring connections overheating. This is a very common problem with these Grand Cherokee. Seems like Jeep should have done a recall.

Blend door failure on '02 Grand Cherokee.

Jeep blend door break - visibility problem because of defroster.
- Hixson, TN, USA
Cold air blowing from passenger side vents and windshield defroster regardless of control or temp settings. Driver side temp adjustments work properly, but passenger side and windshield defroster controls do not provide any heat. Windshield does not defrost, as temp mix is not functioning for passenger vents or for windshield defroster. Problem has not been resolved.

Blend door failure 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee, cold air comes in on passenger side around glove box. Can not turn heater on high, if you do heater turns off because of resister that has been replaced once already(had to wait for the part because of back order, imagine that). Winter weather - cold outside, warm bodies in Jeep, windows fog, no visibility!! leave Jeep sit outside with fog on windows - scrape ice (which once was fog) off the inside of windows. This is a problem that needs attention by Jeep. Does someone have to loose their life before this gets addressed by anyone!! I understand that this part(s) are replaced and keep going out. At $1500 to fix each time, how can anyone afford to drive the Jeep gc.

2002 Grand Cherokee dual climate control lost heat in both zones. The consumer stated the problem was due to the weak blend and recirculation doors in the HVAC system. The doors are turned by a motor attached to the bottom of the door at the end of a hinge shaft. The motor stops turning when there is enough physical resistance from the door stopping against its housing. This puts stress on the shaft/door junction and over time strips the shaft so that it spins almost independently of the door. The motor then experiences little resistance and keeps turning.

Cold air began coming from the vents side of the glove compartment when the heater was on. Dealer found the air conditioner/heater blend doors that direct the air had broken. A plastic part that directs the doors had broken. Dealer technicians said they have repaired several vehicles with this problem.
