- Union City, PA, USA
The contact owns a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While the vehicle was travelling at approximately 50 mph, another vehicle on the other side of the road moved into the contacts lane and both vehicles collided in a frontal crash. While the passenger side air bag deployed, the driver side air bag did not. The contact suffered head injuries. A police report was filed. She called the manufacturer and filed a report; no assistance was provided. The vehicle was totaled but no one inspected it to find out why driver side air bag did not deploy. The current and failure mileages were approximately 80,000.
- Poolsville , MD, USA
The contact owns a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving 25 mph, the contact was involved in a crash. She was unable to remember the details. The seat belts failed and slammed her into the steering wheel. Both frontal air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed. She was transported to the hospital and sustained soft tissue damage to her knees, several bruises, a bruised chest, and other minor injuries. The vehicle was destroyed. The current and failure mileages were less than 120,000. Updated 09/23/09 Chrysler sent the consumer a letter stating the impact was not significant enough to deploy the airbags. The conclusion was supported by the readings from the onboard computer which disclosed no codes, indicating that the air bag was fully operational at the time of the accident. Updated 09/29/09.

Oct 13, 2008 my 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited, VIN # experienced an unexplained driver and passenger airbag deployment, while stopped with the engine running. I was unhurt, but my passenger who was reaching over to shake hands with a neighbor was slightly injured (no hospitalization). Insurance, Jeep dealers, extended warranty parties would not repair bags. Jeep (corporate) did send investigator and did arrange for air bags to be repaired at spring Chrysler Jeep in spring, tx. The dealer, per corporate directive, replaced both airbags and seat belt modules. They did not replace any wiring harnesses, or other associated parts. The dealer did not attempt to determine the actual cause of the accident. They were directed to send the removed parts to Chrysler. Since they did not or would/could not disclose to me the defect and did not replace the entire system, I am very concerned (scared) for my safety. An uncommanded airbag deployment (rare or none documented since no severe injuries occurred) could have catastrophic consequences. The SUV is currently at the dealer. It was ready/repaired 16 Dec 2008. I am not sure how to handle this. Could you please help? TR jones

I was the only person in my vehicle at the time of the accident. I was pulling a trailer & going up a bridge at approximately 50 mph when I lost control & hit the guardrail. My entire driver side and front end on the driver side was smashed. It bent my frame as well, however, the air bags never deployed. I called Chrysler customer service # just to let them know that it happened, just so they would have a record of it. I have never been treated so rudely by a "customer service" rep in all of my life, he actually hung up on me when I asked for his name. I called back to report him and was disconnected again. I am not suing. Fortunately, I was not hurt. But I was surprised that you could have an impact that hard & severe and the air bags not deploy. I will be very surprised if my Jeep is not totalled.

Then, he applied the emergency brake, however, it did not stop the vehicle.
