at a stop the car will not shift, races 3krpm, occasionally
Transmission works off and on, and usually flares up when its cold, once the engine is warm it very seldom acts up. I can run it all day and no problem, but first thing in the morning is another story. I'm the only one who drives the car at that time of the day, so it doesn't happen to my husband, I even had a mechanic keep it for almost a week, and it never happened to him. I can head out of my driveway and it will start reving to 3krpm, I slow down, and start again and it will start all over, engine revving, not until about 2 miles down the road will it start to run normal, and shift out of 1 st gear. If I pre start my car on the cold mornings, it will never happen. This has been going on for over a year. Now it is starting to act up at different times of the day now that fall is approaching. I would like to prevent having to replace the transmission, but no one has been able to tell me exactly whats going on.

This report is made because the solution is unusual and contrary to stated service manual. .Bought my 2003 Overland used .Had the whole vehicle inspected prior to purchase. The transmission was replaced then at 170317 miles. A Jasper rebuilt transmission was highly recommended and installed. That was on 4/25/2013.
On 03/09/2017, at 196500, I was experiencing shifting issues. Shifting from 1 to 2 was hard, 2-3 was better but did not want to go into high or overdrive. I had just had the transmission flushed and had checked the fluid myself. Just after the flush the problem was so bad it went to failsafe 3. The CIC was PO876, not listed in my limited code book. The Jasper warranty was for 3 years or 100,000 miles. The warranty time ran out on 3/16. Never-the-less, I called Jasper who helped me find a current mechanic to represent them. They documented all my issues and told me this 45RFE transmission MUST be checked in neutral. The fluid was 2.5 quarts low.
Subsequently, I returned to the mechanic who just flushed the transmission. He was shocked and showed me in his service guide to check the transmission running in PARK. No subsequent issues have been experienced.
