Heat stops working - issue with doors inside engine - spoke with mechanic said very common on these vehicles and should be recalled.

Vehicle's heating system is defective...heat only comes out on passenger side and not driver's side, a internal defect in heating mechanics (door's that control heat ) in researching online appears that this is a common issue with Jeep owners in this year range and should be a recall that the manufacture is responsible for. Poor design and cheap plastic parts led to premature failure of the heater/ac blend doors that control the air flow of the heater and air conditioning system. This problem has existed on the 1999 to 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Why didn't Chrysler repair the defect instead of waiting 6 years? the dealer charges $ $1300 to make this repair.the actual part is about $30. Chrysler should be held accountable for this.

I purchased a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited in 2007 and it had 25,000 miles and one owner. At 40,000 miles the blend doors failed due to defect of cheap plastic and shoddy construction. Most Jeep dealers want $1500 to repair this issue. This is a safety issue and Chrysler should be held responsible and pay for full repair of this malfunctioning design.

2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee heater/defroster failure. Intermittently while driving, the heater/defroster stops blowing hot air and blows cold. I live in a city where we get snow and fog, and temps go below zero. Having a malfunctioning defroster is a safety issue. This has occurred in a snowstorm, and I had to park the vehicle beside the road and call a family member to pick me up because I could not keep ice from forming inside my windshield. I was stuck beside the road with a 2 year old child, in the snow! sometimes turning off the vehicle and restarting will help, other times, it will randomly turn back on.

2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo: Heater/defroster intermittently blows cold air while driving. While driving in the winter with heat and/or defrost on and temp control turned to warm/hot, suddenly there is cold air only. In rain/snow windshield will frost over making it impossible to see. This defect may only last a few minutes, maybe longer. If I stop the engine for a minute or two, and don't touch the heater controls, restart the car, there is heat again to defrost the glass. This however may only last a few minutes or maybe an hour. If the engine is stopped again and restarted, there is heat again. This is extremely dangerous as a cold defroster in a snowstorm causes ice buildup inside the car. I have seen many heat/defrost problems with this generation of gc's on the internet. I have to question why Chrysler has not issued a recall for such a danger to myself and others.

2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited V-8 4X4 with climate control. The HVAC fan quit functioning. When I took the vehicle into the dealer I purchased it from, I was told, without them doing any teardown, that it was a common occurrence for the HVAC wire harness and connector behind the dash to overheat and melt down. With the vehicle being out of warranty, the estimated repair cost in 2005 at over $1200 in labor plus the wiring harness and a set of 3 air doors, I could not then nor now afford repairs and have done without heat or cooling ever since. To eliminate the possibility of a fire from the damaged wiring, I removed the fuse, which I recall to be 40 amps. I strongly feel that possibility of a fire from the overheated wiring is just cause for a recall to replace the wiring harness and related parts damaged by the apparent short circuit caused by the overheating. I also suspect that the cruise control was damaged also as it hasn't functioned properly since.

Intermittent heat and defrost it finally went out took it to repair shop the pigtail was melted and had to be replaced blow motor works but the dampener doors won't open to let heat or defrost work. Jeep says it is a common problem with the 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited edition but they wont fix it because they say it is not a safety issue. If you cant see out of your windows you cant see to drive and you scrape the ice off the inside of the windows and they ice back up.

Jeep 2003 Grand Cherokee HVAC unit. Automatic temperature control unit. No heat or ac on passenger side. First time last summer for two days, then it came back. Last week, no heat on passenger side. On 12/19/09 went to Jeep dealership, charged $ $99 for diagnostic and told is a problem with the blend doors; price to fix $ 1,400- 2,100. Searched the internet about it and found a Chrysler Jeep service bulletin # 24-001-04 dated January 20, 2004 concerning the same doors. In addition there are hundreds of Jeep drivers complaining about the same problem in several forums. I disconnected the battery for 30 minutes, reconnected and the heater was fine. Turned the vehicle off, turned back on ten minutes later and again no heat on passenger side.

I bought my 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 60,000 miles on it in phoenix it was hot and I did not check the heater. The next night I drove it back to flagstaff and the temperature dropped to 25 degrees. I was not expecting to be in a vehicle without heat and was very cold and could not feel my feet by the time I got to my house. I have had frostbite and am very susceptible to the cold. I feel that while heat may not be as important as brakes or other major safety features it is still important.

My ventilation system in my 2003 Grand Cherokee making noise, blowing cold air, for about a year now it started on one side first the passg.side, so we put duck tape on the vents to keep the cold air from coming in and had a think blanket for my wife to keep warm that was last year on this year both side just blows cold air we dont know what to do dealer saids it cost about 1000-1500 to fixes we cant aford that can you please help. Also having problem with blend door. When using the heater, all of the sudden cold air would start blowing from vents. After a few minutes system would switch back to blowing warm air. Happens repeatedly.

My 2003 Chrysler Jeep Grand Cherokee blows only cold air on passenger side. I was told that I needed heater case repairs for around &1000.00. This is nuts as Jeep is aware of this on going problem and should issue a recall. They did issue an informational tsb (#24-001-04) in January of 2004 for stronger parts concerning this very problem. Lets try for a recall for all the unlucky people with this problem.

The contact owns a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Whenever the contact activated the heating unit mode selector, the driver's side heater and defroster failed to operate. The failures occurred without warning. The authorized dealer was notified and stated that the failure was related to the blend doors located in the heating unit. The vehicle has not been repaired. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 45,000 and current mileage was 46,000.

Good day, I'm filing a complaint with my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The heat has stop working. First it was the passenger side that stopped working and now simply no heat comes out at all. After extensive web researching, I have found a shocking number of fellow Jeep owners have the same problem, stemming back to 1990 models. Apparently the "blend actuators" are defective and start to go out one side at a time, finishing with the main actuator failing causing no heat what so ever!! repair facilities all state the same thing: Entire dash must be removed to replace two-three different actuators costing an owner in excess of close to $1000. This is not acceptable and extravagant!! from the number of complaints I see on a simple web search, I'm not the only one who feels this way!
