I have on two occasions had my door locks and windows stop operating. The first time a wire was found to have cracked in half inside a protected area of the drivers door. This cost $300. I became such a headache to the Chrysler Corp. They refunded me $250. The second time we experienced this same problem the dealer found the same wire in a different location under the glove box had just broken in two. This cost me again and Chrysler would not help. I have seen this same complaint on this same vehicle on this site. There is a problem that must be studied because of the possible fire hazard. Another problem we have had is an intense gas odor towards the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle has been checked many times an no one can find the problem, the odor is very intense at times.

I have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee were I first experienced problems in Oct 2012 with the harness wires and I took it to the dealer and they repaired the wires inside then again 4 months later it happened again and I just had them replace them a 3rd time 03/13 /13 and after 2 weeks of having it home now my Jeep wont start I have it towed to dealer once again they said I need a crank shaft sensor replaced I have them replace it and they tell me it wasn't the problem that now I need to change the PCM so I bought the part and put it in 650 later car still no start so now I changed the cam shaft sensor and still tries to start but just wont I am stressed I have small children and no car now I cant keep dishing out money to these dealers for fixes that aren't necessary I really need some help.

Electric windows and locks stopped working. Found broken wire in driver side door harness. Repaired the wire and then rf door harness wires broken. Repaired those wires and now harness contact in rf door panel connection is faulty. Window and locks do not work unless you wriggle connector. Rr door does not lock. Replace window and door switch but did not solve the problem.

First started in Nov 2009 driver side door controls won't work, dome lights go on with headlights, repaired broken wire. June 2010, drivers door is inoperable window stuck down, cannot lock doors, repaired wiring harness in door. Dec. 2011 windows and door locks were inoperable. - made wiring repair., Jan 2013 door locks and windows inoperable, dome light stays on while driving or else you loose control panel lights.-repaired door harness in rr and rf doors-was told this is last time they can repair harnesses and next time this happens it will cost $2,000 to replace all wiring. This seems ridiculous and the dealership mentioned they have had this problem before with Jeep. I do not see how this should keep malfunctioning if no damage or abuse has happened to the vehicle. I believe Jeep should stand behind their vehicle and repair the wiring harness at no charge until they come up with a better system of wiring harnesses through the doors.

I own a 2004 Jeep Cherokee which has an electrical issue where the power windows, door locks and everything on the drivers side door control panel do not work as well as the interior lights do not turn off, all causing a safety issue.I found out this is a known issue with Jeep Cherokee due to the wiring inside the front drivers side door. I had this issue in 2009 after at about 46,000 miles. When calling the dealership I was told that this is a known issue and the dealership give me an exact price over the phone as they knew of this issue. Since the dealership was very rude and price was very high.I had the repairs done at a highly regarded repair shop which specializes in electrical work which cost $201 but now (at 80,000 miles) the exact same issue has happened again due to the opening and closing of the front drivers side door. The wiring harness is located on the driver's side door, but the harness is too small to sustain all of the wires. When the door is opened, the wires come out of the harness and break, which causes everything on the drivers side door panel not to work. This includes the power windows, door locks, interior lights and power mirrors all of which cause a safety hazard. I believe that this should be a recall for Jeep that they should fix free of charge especially since this is a known issue. I feel that it's very reckless of Jeep to not recall this known safety issue and allow their customers to drive with windows and door locks that to not work or interior lights that do not turn off. In order to turn off the interior lights I had to remove the fuse which can be very dangerous at night and makes it very difficult see any of the instruments. This car is used by my handicapped wife and due to this issue I will not let her drive at night as I feel this car is very unsafe in it's current state....video available

I know of at least 4 people who have Jeep vehicles and we are constantly replacing the tail light, brake light and or having issues with electrical functions. Within 2years I have personally replaced my entire driver tail light, bulbs 4 times. I have searched for any recalls and I have only found 1, but nothing in regards to electrical and or brake light issues.

The vehicle was taken to a mechanic who determined that the crankshaft position sensor failed. The part was replaced and the failure was corrected. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign id number: 04V112000 (electrical system:starter assembly). 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee ran the day before, after it rained that night the next morning the car will not start, remote started to work no sound, lights would go off & on, after locating the harness boot between the drivers door negative wiring fatigues and breaks, heard clicking sounds when boot was touched. Now nothing works. Car has been repaired for other major issues, PCM, tps, senoids, barrons etc. This is a defect & Chrysler needs to face up to correcting their faulty wiring, and not leave it up to the consumer to fix on there own, were are not mechanics, from reading all the complaints on the web, it makes me wonder why Jeep is still in business, great bodies but no peep inside, all the wiring in the drivers side door harness is ridiculous & is an accident waiting to happen for the consumer. These wires should never been bunched together which is allowing friction when opening & closing the door causing burn outs & shorts with the wiring "shame on you Chrysler."

Drivers door lock button would not work, rolling locks in-operable no windows work with drivers door open while in park or any door open dome light would not time out unless vehicle running drivers door closed and exit passenger door after shutting the vehicle off. Took to dealer after we had replaced the switch unit and latch to the drivers door, dealer found a broken wire in drivers door jam.

Wiring harness located between front door and frame inside rubber tubing is made of inferior materials and cracks with time exposing wiring causing a safety issue. Specifically, the black neutral wire and orange wires have been cracking on dozens, if not thousands, of Jeep Grand Cherokee (as seen here: autoforum.classifieds1000.com/Jeep-grand_cherokee/04_jeep_grand_cherokee_electrical_problem). when this occurs, the wiring becomes exposed and/or breaks. In my case when this occurred, the drivers side door controls ceased to operate causing the windows and door locks to be unresponsive. In addition this causes the interior lights to turn on when the headlamps are on causing difficulty driving in night time conditions. Finally, this fault may be the cause of the drivers side brake light to fail when headlamps are on. This issue can be temporarily corrected by splicing the existing wiring harness. However, a more permanent solution would be to replace the entire wiring harness as other wires could deteriorate.

No power to windows, locks and mirrors on doors. There is a wire on the inside of the drivers door that splits in half for no reason preventing anything on the doors to work. I cannot open any windows, un/lock any doors, or adjust my mirrors. This has not been recalled but is a very common problem with this vehicle. I feel this is a safety hazard.

2004 Grand Cherokee. Consumer states pulse module problem. The consumer stated the air conditioning unit ceased to function. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the problem was diagnosed as a bad plug connector. They repaired the connector by cleaning and re-installing the pins at a cost of $170. Shortly thereafter, the unit once again ceased to function. The consumer stated he had to wiggle the plug in order for it to work and it only worked intermittently. The consumer was informed a repair kit was available with replacement parts. The dealer informed the consumer they would ship the parts to his hometown. It took approximately 2 1/2 months for the parts to arrive only after numerous phone calls. Upon inspecting the malfunctioning parts, the consumer found that they were badly burned and the wires were melted.

The windows and interior lights stopped working. When we pulled into the garage we noticed sparks near the door hinge. Two factory wires were broken and making contact, which was causing the arcing. A Jeep mechanic told me that nothing was being done about this defect, and that he has seen at least 2 a month with this defect. If any fumes from the fuel were present you would have a fire.

Lights went haywire in the car as well as the locks on the windows and doors I.e., all of the locks do not work on with the remote, the side mirrors don't move, and the windows do not move up or down. After the headlights are on, the interior lights dim to where they cannot be seen. From an internet search, this is a common problem that cost $275 to repair. I took my car in today for service and was told $112 to look at the car that could be used towards the cost of the repair. According to the internet search the problem will be from a damaged wire in the door that will need to be repaired/replaced.

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee SE 4.0L all gauges bounce and stop working and the truck start slowing down at 60mph had to pull over to the left shoulder. Then the truck would not restart for 15min just as a toll truck was pulling up. Called the dealer and they say if the truck is running now there is nothing we can do unless it is not running. Now the window and door locks does not work. The interior lights stay on. After reading some other post on the web this is a known issue. It seem like there a problem with the wiring in the driver side door harness where one of the wires break away from the harness. After reading the below post Jeep has done nothing to fix the problem.
