When breaking to come to a stop at a stop light, slowly rolling at about 5 mph, the car suddenly accelerated on its own and lurched forward. I had to press down on the break pedal very hard to stop the car, the same time it was accelerating. This lasted about 2 seconds, and then the acceleration stopped. When I returned home I took the car into the dealer and the dealer said that it would probably not be able to diagnose the problem unless it did it again when I took it in. It has not happened again since. The auto is a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a V-8 engine.

Soon after startup, moving slowly forward or in reverse, as when entering a roadway or backing out of the garage, and after removing foot from accelerator while braking vehicle resists this action and the engine rpms speeds up to 1300 rpms +. very high braking force was required to overcome the problem. There have been at least 5 instances of this. The local dealer was unable to offer any plausible explanation or help, although he put a recording instrument on the car for a while. My passenger has witnessed this problem at least two occasions. It was an accident threatening situation in at least two instances. Vehicle cannot be trusted.
