Rolling down the rear driver window in cold weather, I heard a large thump. Window would not roll back up. Window regulator busted.

I was driving down the highway and my drivers window gradually started sliding down. At the time I was running the air condition.and the window started slowly coming down. By the time I got home the widow was completely down. My husband tried to pull it back up and as he did this the window broke right into his hands and all over the seat of the car. And I was told by another Jeep owner that she had a recall on her Jeep. I was just wondering if there was a recall for it?

Window dropped while vehicle was parked and would no longer roll up....pulled it up and taped it.....took to Jeep dealership.....total cost to repair is $650..... same problem happened 4 years ago, but vehicle was under warranty at that time. I guess this is a common problem with Grand Cherokee Laredo Jeep. Mine is a 2004. A recall should be made on this plastic clip fault!!!!!

I have had to replace all 4 window regulators because of a defect. It has cost me over $1200 for all 4 to be replaced over time. It seems strange to me that all 4 have had to be replaced and the part cost over $325 just for the parts not counting the labor. The window just suddenly falls down and will not stay rolled up. I purchased this car brand new and it has been taken very good care of. I would like to be re-imbursed for all of my expensed considering this cannot be a fluke since all 4 have had to be replaced and no one ever sits in the back so it has not been worn out from use. Please let me know what can be done about this problem. The dealer said this is just and issue with Jeep and they always keep a large amount of regulators on hand. I think this is just a way for Jeep to make money on parts and this should not be allowed to continue since the parts are just a piece of plastic and cost over $300 per window and we have to have our windows fixed. I would like to be contacted to see if I can pursue a claim to be re-imbursed from Jeep.

The window regulator keeps failing in the rear passenger window. It can be rolled down but won't go back up. The most recent time, a 6 year old was in the rear passenger seat and pushed the window button we heard a loud pop and the window dropped in the door. It will not come back up. To replace this part is $400+ and the mechanic said that he sees this problem all the time in '00-'05 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee ltd overland window on front passenger side, suddenly fell down into door. (they are electric windows.) away from home and female, inclement weather, and unable to lock car to secure while doing business in an area that was not very safe. Sits on plastic track and Napa said it is a known occurrence, replaced with metal track. Two months later the same thing happened to the drivers window, parked for event came out that window is half way down. Had guest traveling with me 30 had to drive 30 miles at night on freeway, inclement weather with window down. Just waiting for the back windows to fall into door, will replace when I can afford to. This is definately a manufactures defect.

When proceeding to roll down the front passenger side window, it drops down into the door jam. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they determined that the regulator assembly failed. The window was repaired at the cost of $450. While driving 25 mph, the rear driver's side window also dropped down into the door jam. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they determined that the regulator assembly failed again. The window was repaired at the cost of $106.50. One year later, while driving 65 mph, the driver's side window dropped down into the door jam. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and is in the process of being repaired. In addition, when the contact opened the sunroof, she was unable to close it back. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the motor failed. The vehicle was repaired. The contact is in the process of notifying the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 239 and current mileage was 20,230.

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee with heated seat issue. Consumer states that the vehicle has been taken to the dealer several times for the heated seat problem. She also states that there is a wire or rod poking through the driver seat. The consumer also stated the transmission failed, there was a problem with the power steering, the blend doors in the heating system, the passenger side window fell down in to the door panel, and the hood struts failed. The consumer stated the heated seat issue had been recalled. The engine light illuminated and it was determined that the oxygen sensor needed to be replaced.

I have had 3 window regulators break in my 2004 Jeep Cherokee. The regulator itself is a faulty product, made of cheap plastic instead of something that is built to last with metal. Daimler-Chrysler took a major shortcut to save a few bucks and now Jeep owners are paying for it. Each window regulator costs about 277 dollars from a Jeep dealership, and they charge $500 for parts and labor to fix 1 (one) regulator. I've had 3 fail and replaced, so I've paid $1500 on a 4 year old american vehicle...on the windows!! this is ridiculous and this product should be recalled, and Jeep owners should be reimbursed for all expenses, or have all 4 window regulators replaced free of charge.

While driving at 55 mph on interstate 45N, we heard a loud "pop", almost like a tire exploding. The driver side window collapsed inside the door, the noise and change in the environment caused the driver, my spouse, to snap her head in the direction of the wind and noise. She has pain in her neck from turning so quickly. Realizing we were not being hit by another vehicle, she looked back to the road ahead where her attention should have been, only to realize she had seconds to avoid running off the road. When we pulled over to inspect what was happening, our little dog jumped out the window onto interstate 45. Thank god we were able to get her to safety before the day got worse. We called our local dealer whom we paid a considerable amount of "cash" for the 2004 Jeep Cherokee special edition, they advised us it would cost $75 to diagnose the problem, most likely the windows regulator, $250 dollars for the part and $150 for the regulator. I asked about the vehicles warranty and was advised it was only 3 years. Not sure what a window regulator was, I searched the internet, to learn that thousands of Jeep owners have had this issue during the first few years of ownership. It appears there is a serious issue with these window regulators and the issue is being ignored by the manufacturer. This is an extremely dangerous condition and we are fortunate it did not result in a major incident. The design and/or mechanisms need to change to improve the safety of those navigating in a Chrysler Jeep product. Bi shared my concerns with the service manager at the dealership I bought the SUV. I was treated with respect when I was buying, but now my concerns fall on deaf ears. This won?T help me, but I hope it prevents someone from a similar experience. I will sell the vehicle at a reduced price, my spouse is afraid to drive it. She fears it happening again spontaneously and on all four windows.

On 9-25-07 driver side front window rolled down and would not roll up. Dealer advised it was again a window regulator failure. Cost $384 to fix. Dealership very cooperative and explained problem was no uncommon for the vehicle and stated this has happened to many persons owning the same vehicle. Advised another vehicle same year was in the shop at the same time with the same repair.
