As stated before I used to be a Jeep nut, loved my 1982 CJ7,1991 Cherokee, and my 2003 Rubicon. Hate our 2005 Grand Cherokee. It cost the most and is of more problems than any of the others.

Please call Jeep Corporate office if you are having problems with the area around the door handle cracking and breaking off. I've opened a case with them and if enough people call in with the same complaint they will take a look at the problem.

The area around the door handle is breaking away and it is getting difficult to open the doors from the inside.

My 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited 5.7L has all the interior door panels cracked and broken around the door handles. Because of the cheap flimsy plastic used to make them. One of the rear doors can't be opened from the inside and I am only waiting for the other three to do the same. It is a huge safety concern for me that somebody would not be able to get out in case of an accident, fire etc. I have contacted Chrysler customer service and the only response I get is that my car is out of warranty and that they are not going to do anything for me at this time.
The dealer want around $3000 to replace the panels with the same cheap flimsy panels, I hope people with this problem actually complain were it counts and maybe Chrysler will be forced to do something. They do not take any responsibility for what they make. I have two sixteen year old cars none of which has ever had this problem. But Chrysler thinks my car is to old

My driver's interior door handle broke, the plastic broke around it. That was in 20011, Now all the door handles are hanging by a small metal piece inside the door. The plastic is all broken out. You cannot stop this problem, it happens just by opening and closing the doors. Chrysler has been notified and will not do anything about it.

My wife has driven the Jeep for a while and she had mentioned to me that the panel has cracked around the handle and the handle is loose and that the passenger side was doing the same. The door handles will fall off eventually and I hope to god that we do not get trapped in the car because of defective material that has not been tested enough before mass producing these parts.
Such a disappointing finding in a high end Jeep to know that this is an ongoing problem with these models and who knows what other products these handles and door panels were made for.
I question the safety of these Jeeps knowing what problems could possibly arise from such a defect. Lives might be at stake because of this.
I would hope that the jeeps would be recalled for this particular problem and handled at the cost of the repairs from the manufacturer.

The quality of the plastic around the door handle deteriorates over time. Had 2 handle wells crack and on the 3rd the handle broke off entirely. Taped the 2 cracked ones, fully replaced the broken one.
