problem #121

Feb 152012

Grand Cherokee 6-cyl

  • 74,000 miles
The handles on both rear doors have cracked making them unusable. You cannot open the door from the inside, safety issue. They are made of cheap plastic that breaks off. The only person that rides in my back seat is my 84 year old mother who has very little strength in her hands. In order to replace it you have to buy the entire door panel for 500 dollars plus labor. Please consider issuing a safety recall.

Grand Cherokee 4WD 8-cyl

  • miles
The interior door handles all break and crack. The handles are cheap plastic and fail after time. This is a safety hazard and Chrysler should be responsible for replacing these. They do not even have the parts on hand. I have contacted local dealerships and there is a waiting list for over 400+ people a month ago who knows how long now.

Grand Cherokee 8-cyl

Latches/locks/linkages - the pop down did not show this category so I used other the door latches will not work due to failing inner plastic housing. All four doors are in some condition of cracking and failure. One latch will not work at all, thus the door cannot be opened from the inside of vehicle. It is a serious safety issue. There are many complaints on this issue that have been filed. Chrysler should immediately recall the vehicles and properly repair them.

problem #114

Jul 012010

Grand Cherokee

  • miles
The door handles are disintegration. The plastic is so brittle it snaps under very little pressure. This is happening on all four doors. I was told by the dealership its not a recall item but in my opinion being able to exit the vehicle under normal circumstances or in an emergency is critical. I use more force to break a piece of celery in half than I did to break off a piece of this plastic. Its only a matter of time before someone has an accident and dies because of simple handle failure.

problem #113

Jan 102012

Grand Cherokee

  • miles
The interior door panels are constructed with weak plastic causing the door handles which are molded into the plastic door panels to fail. Failure of the door handles to open the doors from the interior is a safety hazard in the event of an incident (fire, accident, etc. ) that requires immediate evacuation from the vehicle.

The interior panel handles are all broken, I called the dealer and they said this would cost around 1,400 dollars to replace each frontside handles, by doing research over the internet I've notice that this is a very common defect on this vehicles, at this moment Chrysler doesn't want to take any responsibilities on this defect. I am worry that in case of an accident my family and me could get stock inside the car.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee interior door panels are defective. The handles are all plastic and they all break off from the door panel. This is a very unsafe problem that could cost a life if the person reaches for the handle to get out of the car and cannot. They need to make this a recall and issue parts to replace this for free for owners of the Jeep.

Grand Cherokee 4WD 8-cyl

  • 65,000 miles
Noticed in 2010 that small piece of plastic was missing behind one door handle. This is a lightly used one person commuter vehicle. Then in December 2011 all four door handles began to fail. Each has missing pieces of plastic behind each handle that compromise their use. Took vehicle to dealership where it was purchased new and serviced since 2006. Was advised it would be $750 per door to fix as the door handles are integrated into the plastic door panel. Complete failure of all four handles is imminent. We are very concerned for our safety. A brief search of the internet shows that this manufacture defect is widespread in this make and model. It is clear that both the material and design used is defective. Replacement with om parts will not fix, as the problems is with the design and material. Please help us get this issue fixed before someone is killed. It is a foreseeable consequence of this manufacture defect that death could result. If a consumer is involved in a car accident, and the handles fail, the consumer would be unable to get out of the car. In the event of a fire or water crash, the death of the consumer would be directly attributable to manufacture negligence.

Grand Cherokee 4WD 8-cyl

  • 60,050 miles
My 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee has had all 4 door handles crack and 1 has completely broken off. After researching the internet, I have found that this is a common occurrence on this vehicle, and seems to be a major safety concern. In any occasion where exiting the vehicle quickly is necessary, broken door handle(s) can risk injury and death to occupants. This is not a minor issue, just like an emergency exit in a building, it can be potentially fatal. NHTSA owes the people of the United States of America the common courtesy to acknowledge that this posses a huge risk for it's citizens. Please protect our right to safe vehicles, and the responsibility of auto makers to remedy any errors in design that pertain to human safety!

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee door panel plastic has become damaged around the door handles causing the handles to become inoperable. Both rear door handles have broken and become unusable requiring the person in the front to exit the car and open rear doors. Both panels in the front are cracked and will most likely fail in a short period of time rendering the car useless.

2 interior door opening handles breaking/failing: Front passenger door totally inoperable. Driver door supporting interior is breaking and back doors cracking and breaking without anyone using them, my vehicle is in impeccable condition. ***this is a dangerous safety issue if handles break or are inoperable in certain emergency situations, passengers may not be able to exit the vehicle, causing serious injury or death!*** manufacturer charge to replace/repair handles is prohibitively expensive; hope you will address as a recall before someone is seriously injured because they cannot get out of the vehicle in an emergency situation.

Inside door handles start to break at the plastic housing where the handle attach to. Two doors are broken and unusable at the moment. Passengers can't exit the vehicle which pose a big security risk. This is a common problem on Jeep Grand Cherokee and should be fixed for free by the manufacturer. Today it costs approx $3000 to fix all four doors.

3 of 4 the interior door knobs have broken off on this vehicle. What if I had passengers and was involved in a wreck" no one would be able to get out! I am not the only one experiencing this problem... it is all over the internet. Does someone have to be killed before the company is prompted to fix this problem" a manufactures defect should be covered/fixed by the manufacturer... www.denlorstools.com/autoblog/2010/11/Jeep-grand-Cherokee-interior-door-handle-broken-recall/.

Grand Cherokee

  • 114,198 miles
The front passenger and both rear interior door handles have broken off. There is no way to exit the vehicle in case of an emergency! I have found on the internet that this is a common occurrence but I haven't found out what the company is offering for a fix. This is an obvious manufacturers defect considering that all three of them broke within days of one another.
