  • 100,000 miles
Over the past 2 years all 4 of my interior door handles are broken on my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I only have passengers in my vehicle one day a week at the most. This is not a warranty issue, but a supplier's defective plastic resin mix. The entire door panel must be replaced not just the handle.

I have 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The problem is that 3 of the 4 inside door handles are broken. The plastic that holds the handle in place is very thin cheep plastic that cracks and breaks there are holes is some of them and on the driver door the latch is completely broken. This can very easily become a life threating issue if there was a fire and some one could not get out of the car. If you look on line you can find that is a very common problem with the 05 models. This is a youtube link that will show you a in detail the problem that I am talking about(www.youtube.com/watch?V=qsfrz7cibky&feature=related) if you need to contact me to verify anything or have any questions. Plastic panels that hold the door handles are cracking and breaking, causing the door handles not to work. After the door panels break we cannot open the doors from inside the car. At this point we have one door completely inoperable, one with plastic broken and missing, and two where the cracking has started.

My 2005 grand Jeep Cherokee limited has defective door panels. 3 door panels have holes around the handle, 1 is completely broken and is will not open the door. The 4th door panel is cracking. Soon all four doors will not be abled to be opened from the inside, causing a safety issue.this car is in mint condition with only 26,000 miles on it. This is a defect, not wear and tear!!

3 out of 4 door handles have developed cracks on the plastic door panel in my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. One of the doors is no longer operational without rolling down the window and pulling the outside door handle. This is clearly a design defect from faulty plastic attachments. If there was an accident the passenger may not be able to quickly exit the vehicle, especially if the electric windows no longer functioned. Chrysler needs to fix this.

  • 58,000 miles
My 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited has 68K miles and 2 out of the 4 interior door handles are broken. The other 2 that aren't broken are cracked and could possibly break anytime. I am fearful that in the event that something were to happen to the battery in the vehicle during an accident, my two children in the rear seats will not be able to get out. My vehicle is 6 years old but has very little miles on it and the handles shouldn't have broken so easily. There has been no abuse to the handles at all. There is no aftermarket repairs available for this vehicle that I can find and the only remedy is to purchase new door panels. Like everyone else in the usa, I don't have the money to replace something like that, that shouldn't have broken in the first place.

My 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee interior door handles have all broken loose from their door panels making them inoperable. I have inquired about any assistance from the manufacturer since the problem seems to have been caused by faulty material and really poor design. The answer has been negative. I am concerned that in an emergency it would be impossible to exit the vehicle if I were not able to get the windows down to use the exterior handle.I feel a recall is definitely in order since the price to replace these panels is exorbitant ( $700 to $800 each) and no assistance is being offered through the manufacturer. There are multiple cases in your file regarding this issue and a huge amount of documentation from customers on the internet!!! please help all of us rectify this dangerous situation. Please don't wait until an injury or death is reported that was caused by this problem !!

While on a trip the sunvisor failed to remain upright impairing road vision. There have been three tsb bulletins regarding the sonata sunvisors. The problem persists and the internet is loaded with customer complaints regarding recent failures of the sunvisor to remain in position.

One of the door handles on my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee has broken off and is unusable. The other three are cracking and I am fearful that they will be breaking off soon. The handles and the supporting door frames are all cracking in the same location and the handles then fall off. The manufacturer has been unwilling to even discuss the issue. The original dealer is out of business and the local dealer states it is $680 per door to fix. Parts to fix the door handles are unavailable for sale outside the dealerships. Due to the safety issue of being unable to exit the back seat area from the inside, I am fearful to allow anyone to ride in the back seat at this time. If an accident were to occur, they could be unable to exit the car from the inside. I see there are numerous complaints posted as well as a website where hundreds of people are stating the same exact issue with their 2005 Jeep. There was not any outside circumstances that caused this defect. 99% of the time I am the only person in the vehicle. The dealer states it is "normal wear and tear". what a crock my door handle gets used 10 times a day and it has failed "yet" this is an unacceptable safety hazard. I hope you will address as a recall before someone is seriously injured because they cannot get out of the vehicle.

I am the owner of a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee and all but one of the door handles on the inside panel have fallen out and it is just a matter of time before the other one does because it is already cracking. This is a real safety issue as if anything happens the doors cannot be opened from the inside. I have read that this is real common because of the material used to make these doors and has happened to a whole lot of people. The dealerships want like $700 a door to replace.

I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the inside door panels are a hard plastic one piece door panel. The plastic that is behind the door handles is broken and cracked and I am very much concerned about the safety of being able to exit the vehicle in an emergency or even during normal circumstances. I have been told that Jeep refused to do a recall and the replacements are very expensive. My vehicle only has 61,000 miles and again this is something that is wide spread in this model with other owners and a recall should be done.

I own a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I have read over 500 complaints about the obvious manufacturer's defect associated with the interior door release systems contained in this vehicle. I must assume that "we" are waiting for a number of deaths before this evident flaw will be recalled. I am now down to one working door on my Grand Cherokee. Other than that, my Jeep is in great condition, for I am very particular about maintaining my vehicle properly. After hundreds of Jeep Grand Cherokee owners have submitted official complaints, wouldn't it be safe to say that these complaint represent thousands, if not tens of thousands of incidents? let's face it... most vehicle owners will live with this, or pay to have it repaired, but few actually submit a written complaint. I have been quoted a price of $700 per door to have these door release systems replaced. As a single mother, I don't happen to have an extra $2,800 to pay for something that should be taken care of by the manufacturer. One day... heaven forbid... someone (hopefully not a child) will be trapped inside a Jeep Grand Cherokee during an emergency. Only then, I assume, will a recall be issued. What a shame. This particular vehicle has been on the road for six years, and complaints are rolling in. This is horrible and extremely dangerous. Please investigate!!!

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited automobiles have cracking and crumbling plastic surrounding the door handles. In case of fire or crash, you would not be able to open the door to get out of a deadly situation, due to cracking and crumbling plastic that was used in the door panels and hold the door handle. In many cases 2 inch large holes are next to the door handles due to plastic failure, and in some cases the entire door handle is no longer connected to plastic and is inoperable. This appears to be the result of a bad mix of plastic compounds, and/or improper pressures/temperatues in injection molding, during the original door panel manufacturing. Chrysler has supplier recovery options to pay for this repair/replacement, but will not allow it unless excessive pressure is put upon them, instead pushing consumers to pay for the $2200 repair on their own.

Manufacturer defect. All four door handles not operable. Plastic hinges and pins all fractured. Faulty plastic components. Safety issue. Unable to exit car from inside. I own a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited. 3 of the 4 interior door handles are broken. The 2 in the back seat are not functional. You have to roll down the window to get out of the vehicle. You will find there are many complaints about the door handles in the 2005-2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. This a factory defect and should be replaced by the factory. There has been no abuse to these door handles, just regular use has caused all the broken handles.

3 out of 4 inside door handles broken due to cheap plastic used. Unable to get out of Jeep from the inside. If there was an accident, you could be trapped inside. Could cause death or injury. Dealership charging over $2000 out of pocket to fix when it was caused by faulty, brittle plastic. Unsafe to drive with my kids in the back seat.

The interior door handles of my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee are breaking, rendering them inoperable. I have attached a video link detailing the problem. www.youtube.com/watch"V=qsfrz7cibky I have contacted the dealer where I purchased the vehicle. Since my vehicle is out of warranty, it will cost me $700 per door. I did not cause the damage. The problem stems from weak plastics. I contacted the corporate office to express my concern and inquire if a recall has been issued. The representative I spoke with stated they had not heard of this problem and there is no planned recall. This is a real problem and should be address! I have spoke with numerous owners and repair shops, they have seen this problem with the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. What if I was in a life treating situation and needed to get out of my vehicle? however I can not because my handle is broken. I don't have children, but what if they are in a similar situation and can't get out" it really concerns me that a tragedy must happen before Chrysler will fix the problem. I do hope someone will investigate this and force a recall. I own a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The interior door handles have broken and there is no way to replace just the door handle. You have to replace each door handle. And that cost about $2000 a piece for each door panel.
