car lurched in reverse on its own car lurched in reverse on its own

On November 16th, just before 4pm, I parked my car in my garage as I normally do. While exiting from the car, I noticed that I parked leaving too much space in front, therefore not leaving enough space behind me for another car. So I got back in the car and started it. I put the shift into neutral to allow the car to drift slowly just few few feet forward (3ft?) In an incredible, shocking situation, the car zoomed backward toward the closed gate of the garage. It was totally uncontrollable.

My husband witnessed the scene, while he was coming through the garage door, he yelled, and I pulled the emergency brake. When I did this the car zoomed forward scraping a pillar on the left side of my car and striking the shed in the front of my car.

Since I was sitting in the driver seat the impact was a very strong frontal blow, that I felt like my body was breaking. All in front of me seemed to explode, and a big loud sound as I hit the the shed. Some of my stuff went flying. My left leg was just on the edge of the car and the door a bit open, so I got stuck in between the door and the car, I screamed in pain and was terrified. I tried to get myself free since I was so afraid to be stuck and to die there. The space between the door of my car and the pillar was very narrow, but I managed to exit from the car.

I was pale and in shock I briefly fainted. I remember that I was shaking and couldn’t stand on my feet without help. The pain on my right side was preventing me from easily walking, but I wanted get upstairs and lay down. My husband carried me up the stairs, that’s when the paramedics and firefighters arrived. I was so dizzy that they put me in a chair to take me down to the ambulance.

Later at the Saint Johns hospital I found out that I have multiple fractures to my right/front pelvis. A huge hematoma on the left leg (all of this is documented). I don't think Officer Burns listened to me. He was rushing.

I spent 23 days in the hospital and rehab. Saint Johns and later California Rehab Institute for physical rehabilitation. I couldn’t walk nor move when I first landed and I was in a lot of pain.
