Grand Cherokee 4WD 8-cyl

  • 47,000 miles
Stalling issues with 5.7 hemi Jeep Grand Cherokee overland. Vehicle stalls at random but at low speeds and coming to a stop. Happens approximately 3 to 4 times per month (about once a week). Vehicle loses complete power, brakes, steering, etc. Huge safety issue. Only way to restart is to put in neutral or park. No check engine light but stores P0884 code. Dealer can not replicate problem but notices code. Dealer does not have a fix or does not know how to fix. Vehicle has stalled on railroad tracks, 5pm traffic, and worse possible times and could cause serious injury.

Grand Cherokee

  • 89,000 miles
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph the vehicle stalled without prior warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who diagnosed that the exhausted manifold was defective and needed to be replaced. The repair failed to remedy the failure. As a result the vehicle had to be taken back to the dealer who stated that there was carbon build up in one of the valves. The repair performed for the second diagnosis also failed to remedy the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 89,000 and the current mileage was 89,449.

Grand Cherokee 6-cyl Diesel

  • 72,500 miles
2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 3.0 crd diesel engine. While driving the car began to run rough for just a few seconds and then abruptly stalled and would not restart. This resulted in the loss of power steering and power brakes while driving. I was on an incline (with a trailer in tow) at the time and was unable to move the vehicle until being towed. This presents a very dangerous driving hazard to the driver and the passengers in the Jeep and to any other vehicles nearby. The car was towed to the dealer and today (8/15/2011) I was told this is a faulty crankshaft position sensor. I do know of other 3.0 crd Jeep that this has happened to while driving. I have also read that other cars and trucks equipped with the 3.0 crd diesel engine have experienced the crankshaft sensor failure. It occurs without warning and at any speed.

Grand Cherokee 4WD 8-cyl

  • 50,000 miles
2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee (5.7 hemi) with 50,000 miles frequently stalls both in motion and while stopped. Stalling causes all electronics to shutoff, which results in loss of power steering and brakes. Numerous times, I have almost been hit because the vehicle will nearly stop in the middle of the road. The vehicle has been taken to a Jeep dealership four times for the stalling issue, which has not been resolved. The dealer claims they cannot replicate the issue. This random stalling is a severe safety hazard that endangers both me, my passengers, and people driving around me. There are thousands of posts on the web referring to the same stalling issue with the Jeep Grand Cherokee (wk) and the Jeep commanders (xk). Does someone have to be killed before anyone takes action?

  • 50,000 miles
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while accelerating from a stop, the vehicle would stall without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was contacted who only offered to pay for another diagnostic test but not assist with repairs. The failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 78,000...updated 06/05/12 whenever a spark plug wouldn't fire back the un-used charge flowed back through the circuit and tripped the surge protector on the vehicle's main computer which caused it to shut down. Two of the spark plugs and coils were replaced. There have been no problems since. Updated 06//18/12

Grand Cherokee 4WD 6-cyl

  • 41,000 miles
Whilst driving my Jeep Grand Cherokee (equipped with the Mercedes Benz common rail diesel (crd) 3.0 L engine) on I-410 at highway speed, the engine suddenly stopped, without any warning. This also made the power brakes and power steering inoperative. Today, the dealer tells me that this is caused by a faulty crankshaft position indicator sensor and is a fairly common occurrence. I should think this is a design flaw and should be corrected by the mfg.

Vehicle stalls mid turn leaving driver without power steering, brakes, or signals functioning for upwards of 15 minutes. Other times is starts back up. Vehicle has been "out of service" by krebs Dodge Chrysler Jeep for 142 days as of this writing as the following parts have been replaced without successful repair: PCM, forward control module, engine wiring harness, power modules (many), primary fuse block, wiring harnesses in cabin, airbag control module, ABS module, transmission cooler lines, ignition switch, and ignition module. Service department manager and other service department front desk personnel state vehicle cannot be repaired, official Chrysler technician sent and could also not repair this vehicle. The safety of every person in this vehicle is in risk of danger if it is used. Vehicle last returned to us and stalled 14 times within 150 miles while in our possession. Vehicle cannot run more than 22 miles without stalling randomly. Vehicle's latest symptom is failure to restart after stalling and all of the warning lights on the dashboard being lit (ABS, airbag, brake, traction control, etc) signifying failure in multiple safety critical systems.

Grand Cherokee 6-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 500 miles
I own a new 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee that I had for two weeks with approximately 500 miles on it. A couple of days after purchase I called the dealer to tell them that the engine service light was on. They said no to bring vehicle to dealer as it was probably due to a loose gas cap, and would go away in a couple of days. However, this week when driving on the highway at 70 mph the Jeep stalled. The fuel gauge dropped to empty from 3/4 full, and there was no acceleration on the vehicle. Fortunately I was able to coast to the far shoulder of the road. I took the key out and restarted the engine, and the full guage went back up to 3/4 full and I was able to resume driving. I brought it to the dealer and they were unable to replicate the problem....they said the vehicle is fine. The reset the computer so the engine light went off. The next day after bringing it home from the dealer, the engine light came on again and I am bringing it back in next week. I have already contacted a lemon law attorney as I fully expect the problem to happen again. I saw an article that you were conducting an investigation on this problem, and wanted to add my name to the list as this stalling problem is extremely dangerous. I feel very fortunate that I did not crash after losing power at 70 mph on a crowded highway. Thank you for any help you can provide.
