Grand Cherokee

  • 73,000 miles
While driving my Jeep Grand Cherokee on the interstate at 70 mph, the low tire warning light came on. Less than a mile later, my left rear tire blew and the wheel cut into the tire effectively destroying the tire. All that was left of the tire was a rubber band around the wheel and 25% of one sidewall. The remaining rubber pieces were strewn across the interstate. Luckily, I was driving down a straight stretch of road with no vehicle traffic close, so I was able to get my vehicle safely to the road shoulder. If this incident had occurred on a steep curve, in heavy traffic, etc, the incident could have created a dangerous, even life-threatening, situation. When the tire fell apart, it damaged my side panel, rear fender, and blew of my bumper. I put on the spare, tied on my bumper, and drove to the tire store where these tires had been purchased a couple of years prior. The tires had 40,000 miles on them. They are warranted for 65,000 miles. The tire store mailed the damaged tire to Michelin for their analysis. I was surprised when I was told by a rep at this tire store that Michelin no longer made this particular tire because, as he understood it, they had known quality issues with it. Michelin examined and ascertained that the tire was a "run flat" and therefore they did not cover either the replacement of the tire or the $1800+ of damage. While glad to be alive and uninjured, I am shocked and very, very disappointed in Michelin's response.

Goodyear Eagle rs-a emt (high performance all-season) - runflat re: Goodyear Eagle rsa tread separation (tire failure) I have a serious problem with the original tires, no modifications to vehicle, 2007 srt8 Jeep Grand Cherokee both front tires developed an unnatural groove on the inner edge (where tread meets inner sidewall) causing tread separation and failure, actually at the same time. Tire pressure when to zero. Nothing was rubbing the tire, but looking at it you would think it is the only explanation. Tread separation in my case happened at about 30,000 miles from new at about 40 miles per hour. I can send photos to anyone who wants them. There are many references to the same type of tire failure online over several years, one example being with an srt8 forum www.srt8oc.com/forums/showthread.php?P=211455#post211455

Defective tires: ********Goodyear Eagle rs-a emt*********** 04/12/12-this second event, driving 2007 Jeep srt8 on side street, tire pressure went abruptly to zero as steering went out causing vehicle to veer off road and onto shoulder and grass. Upon removal of left front tire, tread separation cracks were apparent, some as long as 1-1 1/2 inches, at least one of which separated through to airlock. Inner edge of tire very mushy along 14-16 inches of where separation occurred. Tire replaced with same issue. This event is almost identical to an occurrence that happened September 2011 on the same vehicle, rear tire displayed separation on inner edge over large area. Tire dealer advised likely due to pothole, which was not an experienced event [xxx]. information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Tire pressure drops after 1 day of driving approx. 12 miles a day. I had replaced one about 20000 miles ago. Now both the front tire and spare have the same problem, the issue is the tire pressure monitor sensor valve.

The front tires have premature ware on the inner edge of tire, the result was tire separation. After only 16000 miles of use. I have the alignment checked an it was within factory specification. I had to purchase a new set of tires. Old tires still in hand and have pictures of the tires.

Both front tires separated on the inside edges of the tires. Had noticed it wearing thin at around 13 thousand. Had the alignment checked, and it was in perfect spec. Around 15 thousand, I noticed a very thin spot and had the alignment checked again, and the aligner told me that the metal was showing through, and the tires were about to split apart. Had the tires changed for another brand on all four corners, and have not have any problems since after 22,000 more miles. Still have the original front tires for reference or inspection, and all alignment sheets. Being an incident from over a year ago, I am not 100% sure on the dates.

Grand Cherokee

After reading where multiple Jeep Grand Cherokee srt8 owners were experiencing front tire failure with factory tires, I had my tires checked during an alignment. Both of my front tires are experiencing a tread separation failure. I bought this vehicle with brand new tires on it, 0 miles from a local dealer. I contacted Goodyear corporate, who sent me to a Goodyear dealer locally, who inspected my tires, informed me they were defective, and offered me a pro-rated replace of 50% off. I feel that if a tire (or any product) has a manufacturing defect, then it should be replaced as such and not pro-rated. The tire was obviously defective from day one, and is only showing such after some use. Now I have to pay for replacement of tires that are not completely used nor worn to treadwear markers for fear of complete tire failure.

Tire wears on inside wall where tread meets sidewall on Goodyear rsa emt tires I have gone through 4 tires now all with the exact same issue. Goodyear has worked with me on "pro-rating" at a reduced price to replace. I am still unhappy with tires failing after less than 10,000 miles and having to pay to replace them.

Front good year tires separating from the belt. Car is in perfect alignment checked by dealer. Hundreds maybe thousands have been reporting the same problem, all at around 20K miles. Dealer failing to warranty them claiming that its normal on these trucks due to the suspension"?" not my problem! do not plan on spending $460 dollars per tire every 20K miles.

I have a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee srt8 and the front two tires have blown out with only 12K miles on them twice. Once at 12K and again at 24K. There was a recall issued in 2006 for 2006 srt8 models but nothing for the 2007 model year. These tire have been determined unsafe in 2006, but the same tires and problems are happening in 2007. I had 2 wheel alignments done and both were ok. It is a tire issue that keeps costing me money and the risk to me and my family everytime I drive the truck. The tire is a Goodyear Eagle rs-a 255-45-R20 runflat tire.

2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited, 4.7 engine, vibration at highway speeds between 60 and 75 mph. Dealership has replaced both driveshafts which helped some. Goodyear replaced on Goodyear fortera hl tire which was out of round. This helped some as well. Still there is a vibration (shudder) throughout the vehicle at the speeds mentioned prior.

The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact noticed a bulge on the sidewall of his Goodyear Eagle rs-a tire (P245/45R18). He spoke with a tire dealer who was unable to tell him where he might find a tire. The dealer stated that they would have to order the tire and could take four to five days to arrive. The dot # was M64ydver. The current and failure mileages were 13,000. The tire was determined to be defective
